    Sounds like the transfer case is working then if it doesn't move when the hubs are unlocked. So do you feel it "grabbing" thru the steering wheel? Or? And this is at parking lot speeds?

    No. It should be very smooth for doing tight turns. Are you sure you are not in the 4 HI LOC position? If your transfer case lever is all the way forward (LO LOC) or all the way back towards the seats that is HI LOC. In those positions the transfer case is locking the front and rear drivelines...

    Axles travel rearward when compressing. The leaf spring is attached at a fixed point at the front side of the leaf. Can't move forward. As the leaf flattens out it grows "longer". The shackle moves rearward and the axle shifts to the rear a bit in response. But I get what you are saying now...

    Tracking this- as I want to do the same thing. Someday. Is your truck a shortbed? Would there be any advantage to using bedliner on the outside of the gas tank? To help protect it from getting a hole rubbed thru it by the straps? Maybe even a "real" one like LineX?

    Leaf spring and other suspension questions

    Maybe it depends on the year. My '77 K20 had 52" springs. When I bought new rear springs I switched to 56" with ORD's shackle flip. I have about the same load carrying capability but it did make it ride a bit better on the rear end.

    Does the manufacturer recommend synthetic oil? Some don't for whatever reason. That being said I like Amsoil severe gear. I've used the 75w-90 but I've read a lot of guys that live in a hot climate run 75w-140.
