    Rough country trash?

I had 4" Rough Country front lift springs on my old '78 K10. They did ride very rough, but I didn't have much money 20+ years ago and I was a lot younger... I'm all about a smoother ride now and some articulation if you are going to do off roading. I'd recommend the Tuff Country EZ ride front...

Snow wheeling. Now I want to re-configure...

So am I.... I've spent most of the year traveling and just finally got home. Arizona, Minnesota, back to Arizona, then 2.5 hours south of my house for Thanksgiving week. There isn't much snow around here yet... needs to start snowing! Today I finally got enough time to get my CO2 bottle filled...

    VW Atlas Cross Sport

I've had a lot of Audis and VW. Currently have 2 of the Touaregs. On my older 07 touareg the front wheels like to hold onto the center hub- so I cleaned the hubs up and put just a little bit of anti-seize on the hub. The wheels do not stick anymore.

    VW Atlas Cross Sport

In the spare tire kit they have a plastic threaded insert that when you remove the first lug bolt from the top part of the wheel you thread that in. It then becomes a hanger for the wheel to hang off of. Plastic isn't the worlds strongest, so a few companies make metal ones. I keep 2 metal ones...

    Very rough/rocky desert trail cruising

Oh- I also forgot... if you are going to spend the whole day at speeds of 35 mph or so don't forget to air your tires down. Some guys run tires at max pressure all the time. Now it depends on your tire size and what width wheel but even dropping to lets say 20-23 psi will allow the tire to...

    Hello From New Member

You should move. :Big Laugh: There aren't a whole lot of them stock anymore. Sounds like you have something special there already. When you get a chance post some pics of it! Welcome!

    Very rough/rocky desert trail cruising

I agree with Frankenchevy- the ORD springs are quite amazing. You get up to 14 inches of travel out of them (you will need custom shock mounts to have a shock this long). I too was getting tired of getting "beat up" after long days on the trail. I've bashed my head against the steel roof of the...

    79 k30 steering box replacement

I bought a new Lares steering gear from RockAuto. It was cheaper than Redhead Steering boxes or the PSC steering. But both of those are good also. I've only put maybe 100 miles on my Lares steering gear, so can't comment much on it. But it works so far. My previous rebuild years ago leaked 10...

    Aluminium heads for small blocks

Every time I have tried to save $$ it comes back and bites me in the ass. I did buy my dad a set of Edelbrock E-street heads for his 350 and he really likes them. But they come in complete at $950 or so.

    Rear shocks

I think there are other companies that make something similar. Or you can make them yourself: https://www.offroaddesign.com/rear-shock-brace-kit-for-73-87-91-k5-blazer-jimmy-k10-and-k20-pickup.html Would still need to weld some washers or whatnot to fix that hole first though.

What should high vs low idle voltage be?

In my '77 truck it came stock with the 10si alternator. At idle and in gear at night, with the headlights on, heater and fan on, and the wipers on in the rain was pretty much too much for the alternator. Instead of buying some expensive aftermarket alternator I installed a 12si alternator and...

Steering Box Question - 2wd to 4wd conversion r3500 Crew Cab

If you order the Reid Racing knuckles (they only come in orange power coat) then you can convert D44 or the GM corporate to crossover. But the knuckles cost $250 or so each. And I had to replace both sides on mine (D44)- as the tie rod drops down from up top instead of from underneath. This does...

Steering Box Question - 2wd to 4wd conversion r3500 Crew Cab

As part of your order with ORD did you also order their 2wd to 4wd conversion brackets for the front suspension? https://www.offroaddesign.com/2wd-to-4wd-main-eye-conversion-brackets-for-81-87-91-gm-trucks-pair.html

Steering Box Question - 2wd to 4wd conversion r3500 Crew Cab

Are you sure it is a D44? Cause by 1979 they switched from Dana over to their own GM10 bolt front axle. Some of the parts are interchangeable... just don't want you ordering a bunch of stuff before it gets there and have it not fit.

1987 V30 Rear Brake drum to disk conversion

I read about rear disc brake conversions for months before trying mine. I still don't see how a lot said just slap the rear discs on and keep everything stock as it will work perfect! Maybe my definition of perfect is different than others... Or in the last 40 years some previous owners has...

1987 V30 Rear Brake drum to disk conversion

When I did the rear brake conversion on mine I left the stock MC on it. Had rear brake lockup even on dry pavement. So I ordered the 60s corvette disc/disc MC. Still had rear brake lockup on dry pavement. Then I ordered "The right stuff" PV72 disc/disc combination valve. Still had rear brake...

What should I include in my emergency tool set?

For me it depends on where you will be driving. I often drive out into the middle of nowhere by myself. No cell service- no houses, little to no people. I carry a basic craftsman tool set, wool blanket, shovel, flares (easy way to start a campfire), mountain bike (riding a bike out is easier...

    Relocating Center Pin

I think you'd be fine with the center pin in the stock location. And in the future if you change your mind ORDs axle relocation plates are only 1/4" thick and you can then move the axle forward 0.5"/1"/1.5" Are you going to keep using your sway bar? This will limit wheel travel and prevent you...

    Question For My K20 Brothers

The same thing happened to me when I first bought my truck many many years ago. Previous owner had driven like that so long it even wore a flat spot in the frame with it rubbing all the time. My first project was new shocks and the greaseable bushings with the slightly longer shackles. The...

What ate my front u joints? Dana 44

Do you know if your old axle U joints were 297s? The old original part was 5-297x part number. Spicer then made a newer upgraded version of this and it is the 5-760x On rock auto the 760x costs $17.73 instead of $11.73. What is the difference...

New Tires are Ugly. Bring the Classics Back!

All that crap on the sidewall is very fuctional if you leave the pavement. I'll take function over looks any day. My first flat tire was running over a stick and a sharp part of it came straight up and ripped the sidewall. That is very unlikely now with the tread that wraps up the sidewall a bit.

    Hello from Montana.

I want to move over to your side then. The idiots here will even spray it on 100% dry roads in the early spring when there is no chance of rain/snow/ice just to "use it up" so they don't get their budget cut for the next winter. I just had to fix a grapefruit sized rust hole in my floorboards...
