Stepside Fender to Bed Seam Sealant

They were all bolted together, then a seam sealer/caulk applied, then painted. But, I'd need to verify thet there is not color paint under the caulk. I'm fairly sure the critter has been repainted at least once.... Fenders to bed sides, and step plates to fenders and bed sides The original stuff...

Stepside Fender to Bed Seam Sealant

I'm getting my 84 C10 Stepside ready to head to the body shop. I have removed the rear fenders and steps. What seam sealant should I use when re-assembling? As this will be applied after painting, how noticeable will it be? What is the common practice?

Tilt vs. Non Tilt Ignition Switch Wiring

OK. I twisted the plugs around and reconnected. Cranks and runs just fine! Thanks, y'all..... But....I have found that the steering itself is a bit off....in order to go right, I have to make 3 lefts......

Tilt vs. Non Tilt Ignition Switch Wiring

Meaning...no re-wiring, just turn the harness plugs 180 deg. and plug in?? Thanks.

Column conversion from auto to stick

I suppose that, should I do everything proper like, the 2 wires from that switch should be connected to the safety switch on the clutch pedal, so that the starter will only engage when the pedal is depressed....

Column conversion from auto to stick

Job accomplished, at least with regard to the shift collar and steering lock spring. The assembly was not nearly as difficult as I had feared. It kinda helped that the column was out of the truck and on the workbench. Being able to rotate it around may have been helpful. Now, to figure out the...

Tilt vs. Non Tilt Ignition Switch Wiring

I am installing a tilt column on my '84 C10. I have read that the ignition switch is reversed between the 2 columns as the actuator rods move in opposite directions. Does this mean that the non-tilt column harness plug just twists to connect, or does the harness plug need to have the pins...

84 C10 Cab Mount Bushing Shim

I ordered a body mounting kit from LMC (if I can say that) Rubber bushings and loads of hardware. No instructions included that I have seen......... I called them and they don't know.....

84 C10 Cab Mount Bushing Shim

My body mounting kit contains 4 shims 1/8" thick to sit atop the cab mount bushings. My C10 did not have any shims from the factory. Does this mean that I do not need to install them with the new bushings? The only dumb question is one that is not asked....

Column conversion from auto to stick

I am currently reworking a tilt column to swap inro my '84 C10. The column is for an automatic and I am running a 4 speed Muncie. The tilt is tight but the spring for the wheel lock pin is broken, so I have it torn apart that far. Question #1 is: can I replace the column shift collar with one...

Replacing rubber brake lines, i'm about to lose it

I had my engine out and front end off the truck for 2 weeks. If I'd had a brain, I woulda replaced those hoses while I could just stand in the bay and do it. But..................NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Front brake hoses

IN THEORY,11X2 Rear brakes , JB3, would have front rotors 1" thick. My 84 C10 was not this way, and it gave me fits..... It had JB3 rears and JB5 fronts (!-1/8" thick rotors) and JB5 booster. Best to measure the front rotor thickness to determine brake hoses....

    Best Front-end Rebuild Kits

Control arm bushings, if installed and preloaded properly, should not squeak. No surfaces in that assembly should see any relative movement, so I have read. The suspension travel is supposed to occur entirely by flexing of the rubber or polymer insert. That is why it is important to torque the...

    Best Front-end Rebuild Kits

Now that I look back, it was another forum which censored my posts if they contained names of online suppliers. For the record, the bushings I purchased from LMC were WAY oversized.....Sent bacl for full refund, including freight both ways. I bought my MOOG parts from Amazon at great prices...

    Best Front-end Rebuild Kits

Shop wherever you are comfortable. I have used several and found then to be reputable.(I am not permitted to name names on this forum.) Look up your part numbers, MOOG or otherwise, and shop around. There are substantial savings to be had online. I have found them to readily accept returns for...

    Best Front-end Rebuild Kits

You will need to separate the ball joints/spindles in order to replace control arm bushings. That may result in damaging the grease boots on the ball joints. Ball joints don't cost much, so.............. Just remember to torque the bushing nuts with vehicle's weight on the suspension.

    Best Front-end Rebuild Kits

I went with Moog for all the stuff for my '84 C10. I had gone with parts from a popular Truck Parts catalog but found the control arm bushings to be as much as .040" oversize on I.D, so I returned all their stuff and ordered Moog. Control arm bushings, Tie rod ends and couplers, Ball joints...
