    Camshaft discussion

I recently put in a similar cam, Comp's 268h single pattern or "square pattern". It has 110 degree lobe separation though for a smoother idle and a little more up top. First time I lit the tires up (38.5x14.5 swamper sx) it quickly went to 2nd gear and I think if I would have laid into it would...

Will 30 spline ring and pinion gears work with 28 spline axles?

A reputable vendor will make it clear what carrier their gears are made for. Depending on the axle 4.10 and up are considered "thick" gear sets designed for 3-series carriers.

Will 30 spline ring and pinion gears work with 28 spline axles?

8.5 and 8.6 are the same, just make sure the gear set you buy matches the carrier break of your current differential.

Carb and timing adjustment may smooth it out, glad you're getting it sorted!

    cam wear

My eyes detect cam wear with a dial indicator lol. Or if the bottom of the lifters are bowl-shaped. They look good to me though, I thought this was a roller cam, the 1st pic looks like it has a flat tappet lifter near the top unless that's the fuel pump rod. If it is a roller I heard there was a...

    NP208 Mode Keys

Yep, they're important. 208s that pop out of 4wd often, if not shifting linkage related, is because of these components being worn or weak. If they're not in place it's hard to tell what might happen. High/low range trying to engage at the same time? Front output one range, rear output another...

    SOB’s Trailer Thieves !!!

Inside my building I used post hole diggers and dug a hole 18" deep, took a piece of 3/4 rebar and bent it into something that kind of resembles a huge paperclip, put it in the hole and filled it with concrete so only a couple inches of the loop was above the ground. Since the lock on the...

    D60f caliper question

Mine came out too. I didn't tap the housing since it was obvious the threads on the spout is what stripped. I found a brass fitting in my junk coffee cans that threaded right in and so far is holding very well.

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

Just looks like a rough casting. That blue mark, i think a torrington bearing rides there so it shouldn't be anything to worry about

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

I was wrong here, the intermediate servo applies the intermediate band for smoother 1-2 shift as well as trans-assisted engine braking in 2nd gear, it has nothing to do with the 2-3 shift. People remove the spring and install a spacer to block its function, making 1-2 shifts faster but at the...

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

The retainer, I would just replace it. I might have one in my spare parts if you can't find one.

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

That bent retainer sure could have contributed to it, wonder how the hell that happened? All things being equal i would guess the PO did it during install. Whatever method he was using to compress it wasn't applying even pressure. Leaving out the intermediate servo spring is a common mod to make...

    HELP NO START!!!

And yeah you need a PCV valve on that large center port on the carb.

    HELP NO START!!!

First check your oil. If there's a bunch of gas in it dont try to fire it up, especially if the cam needs broke in. Change the oil out if needed. If you do have to change the oil you'll have to pull the top off your carb and figure out why it's flooding, bad float height, dirt in the needle and...

    Freshly Rebuilt TH400 issues.

That grey mud in the filter is clutch disk material. Something similar happened to me and i smoked the directs in a matter of 5 minutes, all because one spring was installed backward in the valve body. I hate it for ya but you're going to have to tear it down again, as well as flush out your...

    Son of a @$$#&+-$#@!!

I would have put a steel drift and a BFH on that crosspin till it sheared the retainer bolt. But what you did worked, and if it works it aint stupid.

    Freshly Rebuilt TH400 issues.

Re-read your 1st post, the fact 1st is slipping and reverse is fine eliminates the piston seals as the culprit. Hopefully it is just a sticking valve in the valve body. It will be the easiest thing to go through and make sure everything is 100%.

    Freshly Rebuilt TH400 issues.

What about the valve body? Did you thoroughly go through it and make sure all the valves were free-moving? I installed one spring backward in my valve body (it had a large end and a small end) and ended up smoking the clutches in my direct clutch pack.

It does seem to be significantly lower in 3rd. I'm not sure what normal psi is supposed to be though.

    Freshly Rebuilt TH400 issues.

I looked at the article you posted in the 1st post, they have a similar article for the TH350 I went by for my rebuild. In that article, they had a procedure to check the pistons by assembling the clutch packs in their drums and setting them on the pump, and applying air pressure to certain...
