RECOVERED AFTER STOLEN..HOW TO PREVENT THIS AGAIN

If your truck is automagic trans, get a remote start/alarm. They have an ignition kill system that if the alarm is triggered it just won't run. You would have to be away from the truck for an extended period of time and everyone who heard the alarm turn their backs, and the thieves would have a...

    How Tight Carrier

Axle shafts will have play, wont work. Put a big pipe wrench on the pinion yoke and let it rotate over against the ground. Put something heavy on the handle if you have to but you shouldnt.

    How Tight Carrier

I wouldn't, just try to get within that range. As far as the carrier falling out of some and needing pried out of others, the 14 bolt full floater has adjusters on either side of the carrier. Once loosened the carrier drops right out. If an axle has carrier bearing caps and just falls out, they...

    10 bolt upgrade options

Be sure to see the notes on that carrier... "Must use special large carrier bearings with 1.781 in. I.D. and 2.891 in. O.D. race (See Suggested Parts tab)." Otherwise it seems to be a good one.

Random low idle issue 1406 edlebrock carb

Usually the fuel lines will start to feel weak and soggy, the opposite of dried out old vacuum lines. If you have a long skinny flathead screw driver you can take the fuel line loose from the carb, run it back in the passage and spin it a few times and pull it out. If it's getting a lot of that...

    10 bolt upgrade options

A lot of the local mud racers swear by their 10 bolts and 12 bolts, mainly for the weight savings over 14 bolt full floater rear and Dana 60 front. They just run chromoly axle shafts and solid non-greasable Spicer u-joints throughout. Most common failure part is the pinion shaft where it meets...

Random low idle issue 1406 edlebrock carb

If your truck has the old rubber fuel lines you may want to change them out for urethane or some other material that isn't affected by ethanol in modern gas. When I first started noticing problems I took a long pick and cleaned a ton of debris out of the fuel passage in the carb where the fuel...

    Organizational Tips

Most parts I get are ordered online anymore, even stuff from Advance Auto (save a fortune with discount codes). Since all these places email an invoice I just create a folder in my email, like hotmail, gmail, whatever, and name it whatever truck the receipts go to, like "Dad's Truck", "Mud...

350 Acting real sick, But why?

Sounds like the ignition module is the only thing you didn't change. They're cheap so I'd give it a try. Snoots' suggestion is also valid, except for the pop. Backfire through intake or exhaust?

Random low idle issue 1406 edlebrock carb

That filter should be alright if it looks like it doesn't have a bunch of junk in it. If in doubt though look for the Wix brand filter, that's what was recommended to me when mine was having trouble. And yes you can do all this with the carb on the truck. I tried canned air once and didn't have...

Random low idle issue 1406 edlebrock carb

Change your filter out for a Wix paper element fuel filter if you're using one of those nifty glass/screen cleanable filters. They let a lot of garbage past and these carbs are notorious for the idle circuit getting clogged. And when it clogs it acts exactly as you're describing. Fortunately...

Lifetime warranty doesn't mean it will last a lifetime, it just means you'll be replacing it for a lifetime!

    Can I put a 5 speed manual on a 1980 K10 with a 305

Light duty/no towing/low power, you can use an NV3500 from an S-10. Heavy-duty use you would want the NV4500.

Can a 456 posi unit swap ring gears

If you had a 3-series carrier and wanted to run 4.56 gears they sell a "thick gear set" to compensate for the offset. But with a 4-series carrier the lowest gears you can run will be 3.73 which might not be a bad option if you get an overdrive trans down the road or go up in tire size.

    10 Bolt Input Slop

Not sure what the repair sleeve could be, other than the sleeve that goes on the pinion yoke when the oil seal wears a groove in it to the point a new seal wont stop it from leaking. Are you planning on doing the R&P gears yourself? Just my opinion but it may be a bit much to undertake without...

    10 Bolt Input Slop

In the first pic near the top the ring gear teeth look like they've been ran with some serious deflection. That is the "drive" side of the teeth. You can see some rounding and the one near the top looks beveled near the outside of the gear. The mesh pattern is supposed to ride in the middle...

    10 Bolt Input Slop

At $1800 that guy is thinking he's got a big fish on the hook, fuck that. I've had the carrier grenade in one and the housing was still usable. The 14 bolt semi-floater would be a better option, if you shop around the junk yards you may find one with a limited slip and the right gear ratio...

    Truck pull

Personally I wouldn't change the rear gear ratio just for a truck pull if I were you. You can probably do better with different size tires. You can get on facebook marketplace and search for "boggers" and probably find at least a pair of 33" swamper boggers cheap. Then when the day comes for the...

    10 Bolt Input Slop

When you remove the pinion nut, remove the outer bearing and replace the crush sleeve. You'll never get the preload right if you dont. Change the seal. The old one will be wallered out too bad to reuse. Put some silicone around the housing surface before you put the seal in to help prevent...

I knew this trans was dead... TH350 Rebuild

Yep the check balls make all the difference. If it seems like it's not holding a gear long enough it might need the modulator valve adjusted a little.

    99 taco 4x4

Just read this whole thread. After working 5 yrs at the DMV main thing I've learned is don't spend a dime on a vehicle till you have the title in your name. Here in WV most disputes can be settled by the DMV dealers department. If that fails the state Attorney General's office is greatly...

    lets talk 14 bolts....

    1. Yes. 2. E-lockers are nice, but money. You stand the chance of tearing the wire loose on the trail, that's the main down side. I had a Tacoma with an e-locker that only worked in 4-lo, so I did the "grey wire mod" and it would work anytime I hit the button. It was nice to just lock the rear...
