    Sticky thread for lowering C10s?

Some days I wonder how I ended up driving a 73 C10 low-rider. It can be a PITA. I mean, yeah, I have a real truck bed unlike the rolling cribs with a 5' cargo capacity... but I can't drive passengers if we have a job on site cuz she's a deathtap, CA has declared war on gasoline, etc.she's hard...

    Sticky thread for lowering C10s?

All the advice above is sound. I'll add a couple notes from three years aof driving a '73 10 that was lowered by the PO -- I recommend an aftermarket transmission crossmember that has the "bat-wing" design like above, so that you can route your exhaust more directly and don't end up with...

    Headers

it seems that headers are a total dark art. The only manufacturer I have ever seen tell you the ******* DIMENSIONS of their product is Sanderson. It's like headers are a secret, if you have to ask you will never know. With that out of the way, here is all I know: -- A guy on another forum...

What have you done to your square lately??

Aha! That is what the rattl-ey little flap/valve there is! I just discovered it when wrangling all my extra a/c and blower wiring. Good to know, thanks.

Fuel gauge won't read below 1/2 tank, electrical or mechanical issue?

Ah, that's entirely possible. Tank is PO replacement, I never deciphered the upside-down yellow paint marker notes on it from the parts yard. Might also be why my filler neck is squished and kinda choked. I'll look for a sending unit for an 87. Thanks!

Fuel gauge won't read below 1/2 tank, electrical or mechanical issue?

So I have found the problem I think. There's a vertical baffle in the tank right where the sender drops in. The float rests on it when level gets to ~half. this pic shows the black float and the ridge in the tank: There's no way to rotate the sender, there are locking tabs and slots. I...

What have you done to your square lately??

When I first got my truck, it had lots of electrical problems. Being naive, I thought it was the battery, so I bought a new one. (The problems were dirty wires and poor connection/terminations, which I finally fixed....) Being a doofus, I did not consider what physical size battery I needed...

What have you done to your square lately??

I finally took my crusty radiator in to the shop. Julio said he would clean and rod out all the crusty rust. Well, it's a lot better, but no way he took off the end caps and "rodded" it in <18hrs. And for this he charged me $300. Cheaper than a new one I guess, and back the next day. Now...

Fuel gauge won't read below 1/2 tank, electrical or mechanical issue?

All, My fuel gauge has been wonky since I got my 73 C10. (A 73 that actually has an 81 dash and engine/trans) It reads correctly above 5/8 of a tank up to full. Below 5/8, it just sticks at 5/8. I've run out of gas a few times, mostly because I was in denial about my gas mileage being...

Trying to ID this hose fitting

All, We bought some surplus aerospace hose assemblies that we used to make a prop for a commercial (an espresso machine that was "supercharged"). I'm thinking of cannibalizing the extra ones for my truck. It's great, barely used PTFE hose, steel braided and some nomex covered. I will need to...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thanks for this valuable advice. Info on PS pump particularly helpful. I just got my can of trans cooler flush from Summit, so don't have to track down inverted flare fittings to make my own rig. Unfortunately, ckeaning the reolacement rsdiotor I discovered a leak....I'll put up a thread...

What have you done to your square lately??

I have a scary list of things I need to do on my 73/81 C10. I have today and the weekend off, nobody at the shop, just got paid so I can blow $$ on parts, but ... I am procrastinating b/c lack of knowledge, and confidence... I don't want to start a new thread for any/every question I can't...

    I’m in love - here’s the truck I’m dating

Get it! Get it! Do whatever it takes. Look at that big bench seat, just Ready for Love! Is that a CB radio?? Charcoal, and it *IS* a longbed, right? You can live in this truck. You should. It will treat you better than any woman ever has. She is singing to you...I expect it goes...

What have you done to your square lately??

So.... a few months ago, the place/building/compound where I work was crazy busy. Our shop and the two others going full tilt boogie, 3x the number of personal vehicles parking, trucks being loaded, making deliveries, just a ton of traffic. One day, as I was trying to pull my C10 out to go...

    CA legal LS swap

Swilson143, This was a very very informative write-up indeed. It's odd how govenment rules and policies, when administered by very informed govt employees who seem motivated to, how can I say this, "get things done", can be strict-but-possible. Wheras you feared encountering a "referee" who...

    Importance of charcoal (Evap) canister

I'm asking here instead of making another thread for this: Where can one find replacement canisters these days? I have checked on and off but have not seen one (IIRC) at any fo the big places (Summit, Classic) and RockAuto etc seems not to stock them as well. I should check my setup since I...

New oilpan + one piece gasket help

Helpful to read this, thanks. My truck is registered as a 1973 from the VIN on the door post, but the PO swapped in a dash and transmission and engine from an 81 Suburban. I had been wondering why things were not matching up with the '73 diagrams and service manual. The pass side dipstick in...

    Educate me on sanders

Sanders? "Park Bench Socialist" sums it up. Very annoying earnest 20something California musician chicks with names like "Soccer Mommy" think he's great. He claims that "taxing billionares" will solve everything. "With $100 billion of Bill Gates' money, we could end homelessness!" Really...

    '78 long bed value

Los Angeles, up to $500 if you're local. Six months ago I crunched my pass side long bed fleetside. No vendor had replacements in stock, if they would have them in future price would now be $999 up from $799, truck shipping adds $250 if you can even sched a LTL shipment, then....my favorite...

    Crud in PCV breather cap

Today I learned that GMSB is the hottest place on the Internet to discuss PCV valves and vacuum leaks...but I am still puzzled here. My breather cap on the pass side valve cover had a bunch of pasty, oily sludge up inside it. You can see it oozing out in this pic: So is this trapped oil and...

    Frame repair at steering box

This is something you need to take care of right now, while it's easy to do these repairs to the frame. Also inspect the rear frame, the shock mount points is a common place to be cracked and bent. It's quite alarming when you gently steer in one direction, but your truck suddenly would rather...
