    208 Milky fluid

Thanks guys. I did pop the bottom for a second and ran clean. Pretty confident its clean inside now.

    208 Milky fluid

I didnt take pics but if the fluid is milky wouldnt that mean that its emulsified. Or Would the water separate and rest at the bottom after a while ??

    208 Milky fluid

I noticed milky fluid on the outside of my np208, on the bottom and by the output shaft seal. This truck is new to me. When i bought it i saw the same fluid leak but it was clean, not milky. Today i popped the top cap and checked fluid with an allen wrench and the fluid inside is clean. My...

    LS freeze plug issue

Sounds good guys. Yes definitely will get a new freeze plug. So you think it was just installed wrong? Or should I try to stake it off somehow

    LS freeze plug issue

My LM7 i am using for my K5 swap has a freeze plug issue. I pulled the motor this past weekend and it’s on the stand. The donor truck was my semi daily driver. It had the 706 heads which developed a crack, I noticed quickly and replaced with reman 862s. I had a machine shop “give me their...

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

No doubt. Gotta be the most comprehensive one i’ve found yet. I appreciate you guys. I had my 700 all ready to go and i wasnt gonna look back but i can sell it. The 4l60e will have way better manners. I think having to ratchet shift everywhere would get old

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

I have a tuner lined up to get me started but feel i need to do my homework as well. Which hasnt been easy. I expect to get into some basic tuning once i have everything put together. I am ls ignorant but proficient around a carb/distributor setup. This is the next step for me so i appreciate...

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

Thanks for the time for explaining this. So much incorrect info out there or yes/no with little explanation. This is my first ls based build. So you are saying the adapter i am using with the vss at the transmission output shaft will allow the pcm to shift correctly at all ranges

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

Can you dumb this down for me? Are you saying 4 high (and 2 high) will behave like 4 low? Or are you saying 4 low will not shift correctly? I thought with the use of a switch, i could tell the pcm “hey i am in 4 low” and it would use 4 low shift tables?

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

Has anyone not looked at this adapter? It goes between the 4l60e and 208. And the speedo cable stays in its original location in the 208. I will be using the factory pcm. I do not see myself using 4 low but would be nice id everything worked. I absolutely do need 4 high and 2 high. Both my tuner...

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

No worries. My main question is will the pcm shift the 4l60e correctly if i use a switch to tell it that it’s in low. And second, how is the switch wired. Hopefully someone thats done this can chime in

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

What i meant was, with a switch wired up, will the pcm shift the transmission correctly? My speedometer is going to be cable driven off the transfer case in its stock location

Thanks vbb. Could anyone touch on the high/low range switch? I know ppl are using a switch that they either epoxy or screw to the shift gate so it is actuated when put in low. What pins on the pcm do I wire this switch to?

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

Right but i *believe* if i use the adapter, i can get my vss signal at the adapter (between transmission and transfer case) - this leaves the speedo cable in the transfer case untouched. So i *think* that is the best of both worlds unless it changes driveshaft length or the pcm needs to see vss...

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

Vbb I definitely appreciate all the advice. I am mainly trying to avoid any tuning type complications as the tuning portion of the build is outside of my scope of abilities. Since i would need an adapter anyway i think the one that is machined for the vss is a good way to go. Mainly asking if...

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

Thanks CalSgt. The Dakota Digital signal not being good enough is what I found too. So then the Walters piece would take care of the VSS needs, and my tuner should be able to make everything work? It does look like I would lose my cable driven speedo though?? Then all I would need is an output...

All i found when researching was problems getting the 4l60e to work correctly. Maybe just bad tuning?

Yes it does, good call. So i am wondering now if i should keep the 4L60E or the 700r4

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

So if using the 4L60E and NP208, the PCM needs VSS from the transmission, transfer case or both? Would I keep the factory VSS on the transmission plugged in and also add the Dakota Digital pulse generator at the transfer case cable input?

    04 LM7 into 87 K5

Can anyone explain what they did to make their 4L60E work correctly with an NP208 ?? I have searched for weeks and can’t find anything. I know there are Several VSS options but when i dig a little deeper nothing seems to work correctly or put out the right signal. Which leads to poor...

    Remove 4L60E

Pulling the 04 2wd 4L60E out of my donor truck for my K5 LS project. Will I lose fluid from the tailshaft if I drain the pan and cooling lines first? I dont have a plug or spare yoke… Can I allow the LS to tilt back or will it hit the firewall? Doing this outdoors so hoping for smooth...

    Starter wiring for LS

Thanks guys. I guess what I was getting at was the 87 bulkhead wiring. I want to use the factory key switch. I believe I can use bulkhead exciter for the starter, hot and crank wires to power PCM… I dont need a start signal to come from the PCM correct??
