Hey Brian, Welcome to the best forum for squares. I have messed with the 502 in a friends 71 Moute Carlo. loved that engine. IF....you get the block, I would STILL check the bottom tolerances, crank end play, use some plactigauge (.001-.003) the green one, to reaffirm that the mains and rods...
It's a mess, and many of the wires will have to be cut and shortened, but waiting on lugs, lug crimper, etc, but everything works. Inverter gives me 120v, shore power is charging the battery, 12V and 120V panels are energized. More to do.
Thanks for all the info Vince, as I still have a LQ4 with a 4l80e trans as an extra motor. If the BBC 489 isn't the s---, slap that in there along with a BW 475 sitting on the shelf all new like. Yeah if Perry can't use gum, bailing wire, and rubber bands, he prolly cant fix it.......
Finally...
Wiring the battery to the Lynx Distribuiter, monitor, shut off switch, chassi ground. Wire is 4-0 big but it is working. There is more to do, but that's for tomorrow. It is smokie from fires around, get so sick of the smoke in summer, kinda ruines it.

This is a good site to help you. I do see the mark on the dust shield, that is not right. Is there a gasket on the cover? Have you tried to use a thicker (or two) gasket on the cover to see if the binding stops? Just trouble shooting.

So what did you replace that is different than stock, besides the twin stick? Sounds like the input stack is to tall, and binds when tightened? Anyway this is a good site to study.
Last solar panel up all the solar panel wiring is now inside the van. Here is also the battery that’s the heart of the whole situation. Just out of curiosity I measure the voltage off those three solar panels inside the shop and I was getting 90 V at 12.9 A.
Heli coil work good, have literally installed thousands of them in my life as a machinist. If, however, the holes are to big, you can go with Keen-serts.
For anyone that wants to know, here are the components we chose for off grid camping. We purchased from Explorist life in Bend Or, and so far super to deal with.

Wiring down into the electrical area under the bed. Hope to drive to Bend Or. to Explorist lifestyle, (they have a YouTube Channel), as we are purchasing the Victron equipment from them. They have a great wiring diagram as well, 10.00 bucks, that we will follow. Son-in-law is an electrical...
This is the procedure to get the wiring down into the van. Templet, used an automatic punch. Drill tap drill holes for screws, then hole saw 1 1/2. Next jig saw, debur. I just got door jam liner that will go around hole to protect wires. Solar (2) wires will also be routed down through here...
I have found it is easier and faster to assemble the panels to the unistrut bars on the ground. I use the little spacers, (1/8 x 1 1/2 fb) to keep everything flat and square. These have a 13/32,.265 hole for the 1/4-20 as bolts. So bolt through the panel, through the spacer, into the unistrut...
I have that locker in my 454 K20, abused every time i drive it. done multiple burnouts, 16 rear tires toasted, runnin' on maypops. I have looked at my burnouts, they are identical on both sides, start the same, feather out the same, you're gonna love it.
104* may have been very good with the stuff you have in the engine. Yes there will be more overlap, worse gas mileage, more emmisions....my kinda' engine. I have really enjoyed watching your build, being a born motorhead and machinist, engines and mechanical, I love that ---T.
One more solar panel up, and I’ve got the air condition all secured and finished except for the wiring. Tuesday We went to Washougal, Washington to Panther RV and bought a Fiamma awning. Very nice, and it looks like it will be very easy to install.

Post 35. I have abused this locker, behind a modded 454, solid as can be, love it, and easy to install.
