What are your favorite/ best looking valve covers for SBC?

I don’t know for sure but I’ve been told that the cool kids just run without them.

1977 C10 AC not working, solution suggestions

I think that’s it for parts assuming your hoses are good and will fit the compressor you are ordering. Oil Refrigerant Flush fluid and a way to flush it

    AC troubleshooting

yeah, I did forget the part about replacing the accumulator / filter dryer. You have to do that if the system has been open. It's a piece of cake to replace but is a bit more expense (30 bucks or so IIRC).

Backfires through carb when stepped on

Just want to make sure you know this is wrong: Correct is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 (note the flip of 5-6 to 6-5).

    AC troubleshooting

I did a lot of homework on the system while figuring it out, then just read a lot of posts and watched a few youtubes on best ways to suction and charge the system. Biggest issue I can imagine in the cab would be rotten vacuum tubes (both in the cab and in the engine bay). They get brittle...

    AC troubleshooting

I rebuilt the system on my 85 a year or so ago. A few big things from memory: 1. If the system is open at all plan to flush out the lines, condenser, evaporator. This isn’t hard it just takes some time and an air compressor. I bought a cheap flush tank that worked w my compressor. 2. As...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Interesting rundown Benny. I have only done one disc conversion, on a 1967 Impala that my son and I did; and I share your view. The conversion used late 70's cadillac rear calipers, and setting up the parking brake was a mess, and I actually think I get less braking performance from the...

Didn’t take it that way. And, besides, you can insult the truck all you want. I do it all the time, like yesterday when I couldn’t get the motor mounts lined up. I insulted it plenty. :)

I grew up in the Deep South, basically coastal flatland and there the party line used to be that 4wd was just something else to fix. I guess there are takers for all types.

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

We spent some time today getting some major components together ahead of having to move out of the shop. Mated the engine and transmission. Got the driveline into the frame We also put the cab back on with new body mounts. I didn’t snap any pics of that. Will add tomorrow. Probably wont...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Did some cleanup on the th350 with the wire cup on a drill. Transmission is dry / no fluid so I could flip it over easily. Before: After: Then hit it with some aluma blast. I also did some work on securing the brake lines and fuel lines to the frame but still more to do there. I...

Ton of progress today but not many pictures. Got the motor masked and painted, and installed the intake, plugs, and balancer. Went with black. I’m a Chevy orange fan but decided to go black with the orange truck. Got the interior primered and painted. Didn’t have many pics. This is just...

    Temp gauge issues

The resistor in mine went bad and I just put a new resistor in behind the existing one and cinched the tab nuts down on it. I think the resistor cost me a few bucks for a hundred of them. Still got 99 in the toolbox.

Got the front suspension slathered with paint and installed today. Also rebuilt the engine mounts. The old ones needed it. We got into the engine to change out the cam and just get a look at things. 4 bolt mains and what look like generic roller rockers. Cylinder walls looked ok from...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Got the front suspension clear of the old frame and continued scrubbing and degreasing until weather derailed it. I was surprised at how loose some of the fasteners were. Not sure what to make of that. The motor mounts were maybe hand tight and a few of the crossmember bolts were not exactly...

So I guess the aftermarket ac delco shoes I bought are all the same size. I got the passenger side done today. Drums are on. All good.

Thank you for looking. I will check again when I'm back in the shop. That would be unfortunate but on brand for me. I do everything I learn on my own twice. Just checked pictures of the shoes I bought and I suspect you are right. Thanks again for looking. I would hope that I would notice...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

I finally rebuilt the driver side drum brakes on the rear. Have to admit that I’ve never done it and other than having to keep referencing where parts go, I was surprised that the brakes aren’t as complex as they look once you get into them. While I can’t say it was a joy to do, I’m not...

    Factory hood stripes?

Here, I found a picture of a lawn tractor with flames painted on. That's about the same level of coolness as racing stripes on a C10.

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Lots of progress this weekend. Got the floors in the driver and passenger footwells. Got the inner rockers in as well. I can no longer see daylight through the floorboards. The center rear under seat part of the floor is a different story. Since there isn’t a patch panel that I could find...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Made it out to the shop to start on the cab floor. It’s a combination of good metal and Swiss cheese. My task is to cut out the inner rockers and the floor pans, which have been overlaid with sheet metal tack welded to rusted metal. I started on the driver side and got most of the inner...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Yes, and the cool part (I think) is that though I’m swapping the frame, I actually got the original clean title and the vin plate from the donor vehicle. That will make for a nice “by the way” with the truck if I ever sell it.

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

I was able to get the hangers and rear end installed on the donor frame this evening. I sourced new grade 8 hardware for the job and torqued down the spring hangers but haven’t torqued the shackles and spring eyes. I will tighten those up and then torque them when there’s load on the axle...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Finally got things cleaned up enough to throw some epoxy on the spring hangers and rear end. I didn’t take enough pics but here is the rear end during paint. And here are the hangers. Probably looking at tomorrow for assembly of the hangers and maybe the rear end. I pulled the drums...
