    Bent clutch linkage

That pivot ball is very bad! Looks like to me it started backing out and is now pulling out of the last few threads. Also looks like your Z-bar may be worn out. That ball should be centered, it rides inside a cup. They are rebuildable and you can still buy all the parts. Hopefully you can still...

    Heater box question

Can anyone tell me if any sealant or rubber seal was originally used between the heater box and the firewall under the dash? The box has posts at each of the mounting points to space the box out away from the firewall. Just seems there would be a lot of air either blowing into the insulation or...

    Loop Style Hood Latch Dimensions

It has shown back ordered for over a year now on Classic Industries. Still hoping for some measurements. I know I can forge one out of B7 rod and thread it. I'm really wanting to get my old '78 out for a test drive next week!

    Door window glass alignment

My '77 glass runs up and down just fine in my '78 using '84 regulators. It does loose a little speed going through the relays compared to straight to the battery, but not much. It shouldn't be considerably slower. I used some cheap relays I got off Amazon and #8 AWG automotive wire off the...

    Clutch safety switch help

Hopefully you have that nylon stud. They're nearly impossible to find. This is on my 78. You can see I rerouted the wires underneath. These switches are not the most reliable. Sometimes it just won't start and you have to jump it out. Next day it will work just fine. It always reads continuity...

CAMPER SPECIAL WITH CABOVER/ HAULING CAPACITY?

I think the class of camper special may make a difference. Mine was a '77, K20, Z81 code, Basic Camper Special-C, and the camper loading information tag shows a cargo weight rating 1082 LBS. GVWR is 8400 LBS

    Inner Fender Black Paint Question

I used Dupli-Color rocker guard on my inner finders. It's not as rough as bed liner and still seems to be fairly impact resistant.

    Need Help... wheel bearings

Also, make sure to check the bearing races inside the hub. If your bearings are toast, they can cause the races to spin. If the race is loose, don't try using JB weld to hold it in place. It won't work, I know this from experience. Replace the hub

Power brake filter? Can’t find one

I always thought the filter was there to protect the engine. The engine is drawing vacuum, wouldn't it pull contaminants from the booster into the engine? Maybe a master cylinder leaking fluid into the booster? What would brake fluid do if sucked into a manifold?

    Loop Style Hood Latch Dimensions

I have the mounting plate from LMC, so I don't need the diameter of the rod or the L dimension to the mounting bolts. The H dimension would be helpful, if you can give me the dimensions of the loop, front to back, and top to bottom that would be great!

    Loop Style Hood Latch Dimensions

I guess Luke has first dibs, but if you don't hear from him I definitely want it! I'll shoot you some cash too. If nothing else, can you take some measurements of the loop? I know I can forge one out with a rose bud and round stock

How a carbureted engine should start and run cold

Everything is new except the MSD ignition and carb. Both came off this engine before the rebuild. It smells like it's running rich (gasoline odor), but the spark plugs look good, no sign it's burning rich. I've only been running it long enough to get to operating temp, so maybe the plugs aren't...

    Loop Style Hood Latch Dimensions

Thanks for asking this. I'm in the same boat, have all the other pieces for inside hood release but that one. OER is the only company I know of that reproduces these, Classic Industries sells them, but they have been on back order for the last year! Like to get the front to back measurement of...

How a carbureted engine should start and run cold

My problems have been vast, and my engine tuning knowledge is low. This is the highest performance (mild) engine I have ever built. Trible knowledge for a 4WD truck is low RPM and higher torque, but I wanted something that would perform in the higher RPM range. My experience has been, with a...

How a carbureted engine should start and run cold

Wow, that is a well tuned truck. Wish I could get mine to start and idle like that. I like building engines, I'm just not great at tuning them

Door handle install. Need a little guidance.

That roll pin is hard enough to get back in when you have it on the work bench. I couldn't imagine trying to do it on the truck. The spring has always been my problem, trying to keep it in line while driving the roll pin back in. I use a long 90 degree pick to pull back on the attaching clip at...

    6.5" speaker mounting options

I installed my 6" speakers in the doors close to the kick panels. It was easy to do but now I am regretting it! I went from crank up windows to power windows and found the motor hangs down to the middle of the speaker hole. Now my only options are to patch the hole or find or make some kind of...

    G80 Gear Oil?

The Valvoline 80/90 is what I use in my 14 bolt FF with G80. I have never added any additive. Still works after 34 years I have had it

    Holy Grail of Squarebodys

I can agree with everything but the F450 axles. Since 2002 I have had F450 and F550 work trucks, and a new one every 5 years. Every truck has had problems with the Dana axles. It is impossible to keep the alignment, even with brand new trucks, my 2021 has already been in for 2 alignments, I'm on...

Can you change door glass with a broken power window motor?

That's not entirely true Bucket, at least not with the power windows. You can remove the glass with the vent window in place. You have to have the window all the way up and remove the window channel. Use several pieces of painter's tape to hold the window up, and remove the regulator by removing...

    Aluminum head thoughts

I picked up a set of Summit 162111 heads. They are USA made, and I am very happy with the quality. I haven't put it on a dyno yet, but I can really feel the difference in the truck from the 186 double hump heads I replaced. Also went from a Comp magnum 230/480 to a slightly larger Howards roller...

10 inch lift and 37 inch tires on 88 suburban

I believe trucks should be high in the sky, not belly flopping on the ground, so I say go for it! I ran my truck for years with an 8" Superlift suspension kit, 2" body lift, and 39.5" Swampers. I believe if stability was a big issue, I wouldn't be here talking to you today. I did some really...
