Biggest jobs you have completed in the shortest amount of time.

In my youth, I swapped a bad crank in a 305 TPI IROC in about 9 hours, the balancer spun the keyway out of it so it was straight forward in and out but still.

Plug Gap - Suggested or Altered with HEI?

I thought it was .080. First couple years HEI used to burn the rotor up as a result.

What have you done to your square lately??

I walked into the garage, moved some items I had stacked around it, leaned against another truck in the driveway, stared at it, looked at a couple difficult things I have to do, thought about it, went and got a hair cut. Looked for the rest of the day for enthusiasm to get it done but wasn't to...

1991 GMC suburban braided fuel return line at back of engine 5.7

Hello, I have been fighting this the past couple weekends myself on my '87. I was replacing them because I was swapping an engine and just due to age. I stepped up and bought a pair of pre bent lines represented as being correct for my 1987 V-10 5.7 truck that had the stainless wire braided...

What new tools have you got lately?

I am trying to assemble a functioning repair shop and have been watching local auctions for stuff. The past 3 weeks scored torches, a cart, welding helmet, and all the things you need with the torches like strikers, tip cleaners along with an assortment of different tips, cutting, rosebud...

    Summit bolt on exhaust system?

I bought a Pypes system for one of my 2wd trucks. The pipes were bent correctly but I spent a ton of time trying o get them tucked up and fitted the way I wanted them. Used a aftermarket crossmember and it had headers...

    Aftermarket Door Latch Mechanisms

If we are discussing the actual door latches that mount in the door with the 3 Philips head screws, it's been my experience that they get worn out from the striker on the jamb, it ends up pushing the metal downward and tearing it causing door alignment and noise issues. I bought LMC ones...

What have you done to your square lately??

Wanted to get it together this weekend but didn't quite get it there. Pressure washed the frame in the engine area, came out pretty nice for a driver this old. Installed new engine mounts. Looked over the wiring harness and decided to just swap it out, too many previous repairs and rodent...

What new tools have you got lately?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0811JT4WW/ Pressure washer extensions and 30, 90 and 120 degree bent ends Bought this off Amazon, saw a YouTuber do a video where she uses to clean mower decks and such without flipping them over. Should help with the brake dust on the wheels and such and looks long...

What have you done to your square lately??

I have been fighting an engine swap the past 3 weekends with the goal of it driving out of the garage next weekend. I dismantled a '88 Suburban 4x4 a couple years ago that had a new Goodwrench TBi motor installed. It had about 10k miles before they gave up on the truck 10 years later. A wise...

    Lift decision

I have the Tuff Country 3" ez ride with springs, no lift blocks, and 33/12.50/15 tires. Everyone states it rides nice, I almost feel like it's too soft. I wouldn't want to try hauling anything heavy and I am worried how it will tow. Just my .02

History related, when did people start lifting Chevy trucks?

I believe the Postal Service used to do this for rural deliveries back in this era or as the meme reads.... 1927: Ricky Dale Everclear becomes the first man to put oversized rims on his truck with his girlfriend's tax return.

    Ford 4000 hydraulic leak

Carefully look over the tube and where it is mounting at, anything obvious? Nicks? Tube cracked? Mounting area where tube fits cracked? Elongated? Are you sourcing the correct o ring? Or finding one that was similar to the old one? Just because it came from the parts house doesn't make it...

    Interior Finished!!

This Until you do one, you do not realize how much it will cost to bring it back to that level. It will nickel and dime you to no end. If you try to skip something, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

    Show your sick toy !!!

I wish I had the time and energy to play in the dirt like you guys. We have this, it's not everyone's cup of tea but works for us. 718 Boxster S, Car and Driver states it runs 11.9's in the quarter and I can believe it if you can get it to hook. Launch control is a hoot when engaged. It will...

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

So I pulled it off the wall and out of its frame and looked on Ebay, there are 9 people selling them, I am going to guess it's a reprint. One guy on Ebay represented his as original and vintage, the cover colors are lighter and the pages appear whiter. The link has pictures of all the pages of...

What have you done to your square lately??

Bought a new transmission cooler with 6an fittings. Went to the local hose shop and bought a pair of bulk head fittings, 9' of hose and 6an fittings that are reusable to make a clean install. I have always hated trying to fish the hose under the core support and back up. It always looks...

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

I don't have any really cool stuff I found anymore, either thew it out to sold it off. One cool thing I bought at an estate sale was a dynamite plunger box from the early 1900's, the thing that sets the electrical charge for dynamite. I sold it on Ebay years ago. I needed pictures for my office...

Help! 1991 Suburban cuts out suddenly, immediately restarts. Tried everything.

Electrical issues tend to be it works or it doesn't. Fuel issues tend to give a drivability issue prior to shutting off. If you don't have any codes to work off of, the next thing I would do is a harness shake test while its idling and see if you can locate a broken wire in the harness, last...

What new tools have you got lately?

Picked this up at a local on line auction, it's looking a little rough but I will know more once I have some time to tinker with it. It had fuel in it that wasn't horrible, we will see. Its a Honda EW 171, basically a 171 amp arc welder or a 4000 watt generator, $227 at auction. Not sure if it...

Will Spray max USC 2k High Gloss Clearcoat Aerosol work over metalflake paint

That SprayMax 2K clear is used by body shops all over for quick and dirty cutting in and spot repairs. It's a 2K urethane clear, you have to press the bottom of the can and it ruptures a bladder or something that makes it a true 2 part paint. It only has a couple hour shelf life or so once mixed...

Show off your non-square project cars.

One of these days I might get around to getting this one some fresh paint and a new motor. It's been sitting in storage for the past 5 years, the AZ sun has not been kind to it.

What new tools have you got lately?

Won another local online auction for carbon pile battery and charging system testers. A little dated, but for $72 for both, not a bad deal. The amp clamp on the one makes it very useful chasing draws and finding junk starters that are still working but drawing too many amps.
