What new tools have you got lately?

Well, kind of a new tool......made an after cooler setup for my air compressor. Used a Derale trans cooler - funny, when you look them up, there's one link for trans cooling and 20 for air compressors. Didn't want to use the goofy 'hanging it with a zip tie' idea so made a mount from some 2"...

Thread size for 5/8 steering wheel nut

    I know in the 80s it was a fine metric - M14 x 1.5 iirc. I had a 9/16 x 18 on a 78 Buick column as well.

    Wiper help

Rebuild it. They are all pretty much the same inside, but I would update it to the later style then rig a contact switch for the washer pump.

    A couple more sensor questions

According to that chart, a 1/2" should be 2-3 turns. Mine's at 3 1/2 exactly, so sounds like I'm ahead of the game......or, deeper than expected (thats what she said). :hat:

    A couple more sensor questions

I have seen both yeas and nays for that test port but will definitely avoid it. I read an article where a guy said he installs an inline trans spin on filter and puts the temp sensor there (?!). Sounds interesting. I've removed alot of those sensors from the pan that were smashed or bent over...

    A couple more sensor questions

A few pics just need a second opinion on. The old 4N cars I used to build - the sensors most always sunk to the shoulder. Does this temp sensor look like its even in far enough? Its very tight at this point. Half tempted to run a tap in it. Think its too close to the header? This is on the...

    Oil Pressure Sender Port

Is this port used for an oil pressure sensor - think it is but not sure. I can put a rod in that hole almost 10" deep. WTF? There is also a hole right next to it (kind of half-under the intake) - anyone know what thats for? This motor was totally stripped when I got it so nothing to go by as...

Cowl area cleanout, are these fasteners the original correct ones FINISHED!!

I raid every one of those clips I find at the yards.....lucky to salvage 2 each time as they're just as dried out and brittle.

    Replace Steel Dash

Drill out the rivets and transfer it to the new dash. I think they're called "rosette" rivets and they're available new.

    Electric Fan Temps

FWIW, the late 90 - early 2000's Volvos had a 2 speed fan relay that was popular. I probably have quite a collection of them around here. Not sure of they'd be any help or something the ECU would do now.

Awesome info.....you guys are the best! :hat:

    Electric Fan Temps

I'm running the ProFlo 4 setup so there may be a sensor for the ECU to activate fans - I have enough schematics to sort without delving into that mess yet, so dunno. My Edelbrock heads each have a spot for a temp sensor (2) plus there is another port next to the thermostat if need be. I'm a...

    Electric Fan Temps

What on-off temps do you fellas prefer? I'm trying to get wiring and such sorted on my motor but haven't bought a fan sensor yet. There's a spot in both heads - driver's side is getting the temp gauge sensor and the pass side is getting the fan sensor. Will probably put a manual override on both.

    Electric Fan Temps

Great ideas - some along with what I thought it should be but wasn't sure. Thanks very much!

    Electric Fan Temps

Do you guys run one constantly or always on a on-off sensor? Looks like the standard on/off sensor is 185/175. I would think it'd run about that regardless. Dunno. I'll be running dual fans with one either coming on with AC or manual over-ride when in stop-go traffic.

Time to put a sound system in the hotrod, wanna bounce some ideas

Best set of speakers I ever had was a set of Boston 6.53 - 3 way components. Had the 6.5's down low in the doors; 4" mid just above it where the factory 5.25 used to sit, and then the tweeters in the dash (where oddly enough, tweeters were with the 'primo' factory systems). Sounded incredible...

    Catch Cans

Here's a crude drawing, but you'll get the point. I made mine and use copper chore-boys for the filter part.

    Catch Cans

They make a 'baffled' grommet as well - might go that way. A few years ago I was building a 'special' 4cyl turbo and made a large catch can out of aluminum.....the same size as a vapor canister so I could mount it with an existing bracket. I made 2 (maybe 3?) of them at the time.....one is...

Does anyone think the (cheap) baffles that go in the valve covers for the breathers or catch can plumbing are even necessary?

    Rock Auto Discount Codes

Was weird....had to buy 2 new O2 sensors for the wife's Subie......$208. I tried 8-10 for the month of March and none would take. Didnt say expired or anything just didnt work. Needed the sensors to get them in by this weekend so hit go anyways. Just tried same order with yours and WFO's...

    Catch Cans

I noticed a couple guys were talking of getting a catch can - but there was no follow up. Did anyone here ever get one and how did you plumb it for 2 heads? I used to put these in turbo 4 bangers all day and loved them. Just not sure about the V-8......a Tee from both heads to the one can? What...

    Vacuum Reservoir

The ball looking thing on the driver's side......I have pics but the lone vac line disappears behind the motor - cant figure out what it connects to, maybe the cruise or HVAC? With a Vintage Air setup, I wont need it for the HVAC. Not sure what I'm doing yet with the cruise. Just wondering if...

    Brake Booster Vac Hose Size

So maybe that 11/32 (.343) claim wasn't too far off? Thanks fellas - I owe you all yet another beer. :hat:
