Tune up, than banging sound?
Use a big a$$ screwdriver to reach around and touch things (that are not moving) with your ear on the other end. This may help find the source. I repeat, do not go near the fan or belts.- justhorns

What have you done to your square lately??
I loaned my truck to a neighbor for his work as a carpenter. He was unable to break it, which is good. If a vehicle loaned out comes back broken, its not the borrowers fault. To make a car/truck reliable, try loaning it to people and see if they can break it. -
I finally realized why I like working on my '81 C10 so much
My 81 6 cylinder is my daily driver. Its simple to repair and parts are available cheap. I'm an ex Certified Quality Engineer. Reliablility is proportional to the number of parts. Covered up ugly wiring behind my new radio hole. Drove to Boulder CO and back. New sticker works fine. -

So, when you go to parts suppliers, do they have the parts to keep our emission equipment working like new. If not, what do you do? Air pumps, catalytic converters, Induction valves are not available anymore. Because no one buys them, or?- justhorns

Wiring harness options
I don't really like any of the fuse boxes due to LOCATION. If you think its hard to change a fuse down there, How about installing the thing. That said, its really not painless to install any of them. Doing a 70 ford right now with AAW. But the results are a better than new harness if installed...- justhorns

In dash wiring today. Wired up the light for the tachometer, removed the original working Delco AM radio (Does anyone want this?). Fixed a few more things wiring wise. $20 plus shipping? -

I've done 20 or more full rewires with American Autowire and would not use another. Also, their dealers have stock on ebay if AA doesn't have your kit in stock. Sometimes you can save money on ebay too, and still get the exact full AA kit. They had trouble during the pandemic keeping up with...- justhorns

Looks familiar. I removed the extra stuff, but have not had the head off. Rebuilt the carb too. Yes, It runs great (only about 85K miles), but I'm now building a 350 for the truck. It runs so nice, the 350 may never make it.- justhorns

Custom ignition switch not on column
The stock "ignition switch" is not behind the key. It is down below on top of the column, about 5" from the firewall. A rod from the key assembly goes down the top of the column and operates the switch. If you grab the 4 wires off that switch, you can run them to a new added on switch, but, I...- justhorns

Pulling all the smog stuff
One thing to watch out for- If your catalyst gets a load of rich mixture, It will burn up and melt. The melting blocks your exhaust and you will lose massive power. Finished the painting of the two doors. Got rid of the rust freckles (Wheels and tires upgrading too). Before, during (ran outta paint), and after. But, uploaded in wrong order, so during, before, and finally after in order of pix. -

Tried to replace the motor mounts under my 6 cylinder today. Drivers side, first Nut underneath just spun with the bolt. As that was the first of 6 bolts, and this mount looked really bad, I think someone bailed on this repair some time ago. I bailed too. Will have to wait for the new motor... -

Bad leak from my saginaw transmission. So pulled side cover to get to shift fork seals. Both were gone. 2-3 different from 1-R. New o-rings installed and back together. Inside looks OK. used fluid extractor to get oil at bottom (no lower drain plug). Filled with Redline MTL. Going to put in new... -

drum brakes
Its the "diameter" of the brake pads when hooked in place (no drum), which contacts the drum. So, 13 x 2.5" brakes would also be 2.5 " wide pads -
Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?
I'm 5'10". My seat is about right, but a little short to push clutch down comfortably. But, with my Hurst truck shifter, when I pull back to 1st or 3rd, its very close to the seat, so I don't know if moving the seat up will hit the shifter. I'll go try it today. -
