    Factory Engine Color???

It's been quite a while since I've rebuilt & painted engines but I always paint the back of the block, inside the bell housing, a different color... just to screw with whoever takes it apart next. :)

    Steering Geometry Question

Just a side note on this topic... In the old days all circle track guys used Ackerman Steering. We changed the length of the idler arm to get the right front tire to turn just a few more degrees than the left. It would make the car turn way better to the left... :)

    Amazon special/ Led Headlights

I had no big complaints about the cheaper Amazon LED headlights, they fit and worked. The RMS units I replaced them with were way better, much brighter and a more defined pattern. They were three times the price though. My old eyes need all the help I can give them.

Nobody warned me about the MPGs on these square bodies!

The 400 sbc in my '78 K20 has a new Holley 600. With 33" tires and a 400TH and 4:11 gears I swear I can see the fuel gauge move when I floor it! :) I keep both 20 gal tanks full!

Driving full time 4wd with front drive shaft removed

I didn't even consider keeping the original 203 my truck came with. They're not worth anything in my area. I put in a 208 and adapter plate. Required driveshaft changes but the truck badly needed them anyway.

    Comp Cams Break in

It's been many years since I've built an engine, but I seem to remember taking one set of springs out for break in... The best lifters I ever used. https://www.rhoadslifters.com/

Previous owner swapped in a GMT400 spare tire carrier

I put the later model crank up in my old '78, but I did make sure to get the proper unit for truck tires... and also bolted it in. Depending on your skills, fab up something that will work with your size rim or replace it with the correct unit.

Standard U-bolt torque are bolt diameter size specific... 5/8" 3/4" etc... not the wrench size of the nut. Lots of web info on bolt size torque

Has anyone ever built a 377 Small Block?

Way back in the late '80s at the local 3/8 mile oval track was where I saw my first 377 in action. It dominated for a short while in the season, until everyone else had one or went even bigger with after market cranks.

Grill fasteners, who sells full set, not just individual

I was surprised to find a fairly good assortment of automotive fasteners at Menards. If LMC doesn't have that particular set any of those fasteners can be bought in bulk on the net.

How are the factory dual saddle fuel tanks supposed to be routed?

I went through the complete dual tank system when rebuilding my truck. New tanks, new lines, the original six port valve, it was tested with air and worked fine. This includes the return line, which is 1/4", the vent line is the 5/16" one. The only change I made was switching the tank & return...

    Led headlight mod

I used a cheapo Amazon set to just check out wiring etc.. when I first rebuilt the truck. They worked ok but were barely better than originals. I just installed the RMS 7" versions and it was a HUGE difference. These are real LED assemblies with glass lens and removable fan cooled bulbs. The...

Door realignment after paint, what technique did you use?

What have you done to your square lately??

I got a Summit aluminum radiator to replace the one in my '78 truck, it was seeping at the pitcock. The width was exact but it was about 3/4" short for my application. I fabbed up some small short cup mounts for the lower rubbers. It fits nice and tight now. Installed the RMS 7" round LEDs to...
