    Seems like in every case I've seen where belt-driven accessories were relocated (usually AC retrofits), NOBODY ever does the required machining to make sure everything lines up properly. Usually it's just shortening/lengthening bolts and/or spacer bushings. But they don't do it. So belts...

    "satisfying 1-speaker experience" is kind of a contradiction in terms. But, you can make just about anything fit the dash. I have been putting heavy 6x9s in the bottoms of truck doors for more decades than I'd care to admit. Never a problem.

    I might be inclined to use a surface-mounted fixture of some type, rather than going for the recessed original equipment design. It's not likely anybody would care about what the light itself looked like. That way you get away with maybe a 1/4" hole for wires and a couple of tiny screw holes...

    Seems to me a tach is a tach. Principle is the same whether you're measuring one cylinder or 12. Connect it properly, and it will work. [*Edited to acknowledge that I am full of crap.]

    Are you by any chance using LED bulbs? A lot of those are directional. Which, being diodes, would kind of figure. Just a thought. I've had a little trouble with that stuff myself in the past.

    If those turn out to be real cracks, from the photos it looks like a good TIG weldor could make them go away. [Pardon my old-school usage. A welder is a machine you use to weld. The weldor is the guy who uses the welder.]
