    Brown timing wire diesafter unplugged

when you unplug the timing wire, the timing should be controlled by the ignition control module under the cap. if it just dies when you unplug the timing wire, I'd suspect that the module may be bad or maybe is somehow poorly grounded? check the reference library for the service manuals. the...

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

The ECM operates a solenoid to control the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. This solenoid is normally closed. By providing a ground path, the ECM energizes the solenoid which then allows vacuum to pass to the EGR valve. The ECM monitors EGR effectiveness by de-energizing the EGR control...

    Correct Fuel Pressure 1987 350

If you still are getting code 32, I'd diagnose that before I made any other changes

    Correct Fuel Pressure 1987 350

10psi is the low end of spec (9-13psi). code 32 is EGR, not MAP. could be the EGR valve is stuck open or the EGR solenoid might be bad. did the code 42 come back after the new ICM was installed?

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

last pic because you can only attach 5. I'd pop yours off and compare to these pics to make sure it looks exactly like the old one in these photos

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

here are photos comparing the old one (correct part, but old) and the new one (incorrect part) from when I had issues. the correct new one I acquired later looked exactly like the old one, just clean

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

here is the proper EGR part number AC Delco 214-5073. if you have no more off idle stumble with the EGR hose plugged, I'd suspect the likely culprit to be the wrong type of EGR if the EGR solenoid is operating properly. the valve and the solenoid components are tested separately.

    Random Service Engine Soon light

manual says 10-20 degrees retard. not sure where I got 8 from. sorry for the bad Intel. Electronic Spark Control (ESC) system is designed to retard spark timing up to 10° - 20° to reduce spark knock (detonation) in the engine. This allows the engine to use maximum spark advance to improve...

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

I bet you have the wrong EGR. There are positive and negative backpressure EGRs. Only get an AC Delco. I had a thread on this somewhere with the part number...search it up. I replaced mine and had an off idle stumble. Parts house said it was right. But it was not. Replaced with the proper part...

    Random Service Engine Soon light

I think it's only purpose is to detect knocking (even inaudible pre detonation) and retard timing accordingly. This can be from too advanced timing or from any other reason. It isn't smart enough to know anything but the signal it detects.

    Random Service Engine Soon light

No harm in not having the knock sensor as long as the engine isn't knocking. It is there purely to protect the engine. How it works is it retards the timing when knock is detected. I think up to 8 degrees, based on knock severity. Running premium fuel won't let it advance the timing any more...

Factory power steering cooler? 1991 Suburba

my 1990 v1500 suburban has that power steering cooler. it also has the extra oil and transmission coolers. it might have been associated with the towing package? about the only option available at the time, that my suburban does not seem to have, is the rear auxillary heater.

Need a little guidance (suburban floor rail)

if you have a Krown installer within driving distance, it seems to be a good investment each year. my burb gets driven in all weather, and they use a lot of salt when it snows. so far so good on keeping rust away for the last 6 years.

i live in the Midwest and this is why I Krown my suburban every fall. best $150 I spend each year on it.

    TBI No Fuel Condition

check for 12v at the fuel pump relay on the passenger side firewall (orange wire) with key on. if you dont have 12v at the relay, the issue is upstream and yoi will need to trace the orange wire. if you have 12v at the relay, backprobe the relay on the wire running to the fuel pump w/n 2 sec of...

    Random Service Engine Soon light

my guess is it is failing the self test. it wont self test until the engine is warm. last time i ruined a sensor, i could audibly hear the pinging when it self tested, and the engine light came on right after. when you remove or install a knock sensor, always use a vice grip or something to...

    Electrical Mystery for 700R4?

you can just run D around town and it will be fine. But I don't think locking every time you hit 4th gear will be a great setup on the highway with those tires unless you are running some 4.56 gears.

    Random Service Engine Soon light

it shouldn't need Teflon tape, the hole isn't all the way through the block. if you spun it too hard with a socket to where the head spun independent of the body, the sensor is toast and will need to be replaced. I usually use a big vice grip to initially loosen or finally tighten for...

    Random Service Engine Soon light

could be the knock sensor going bad and the system did a self test and it failed? that or a loose connection or wiring problem in that system would be likely culprits. if you haven't already found the GM Manuals in the reference library, I'd go grab the Drivability and Emissions manual and...

If ECMB keeps blowing. The 440 circuit may be shorted to ground under the hood. It feeds power to fuel pump relay and to the ECM. Also check ECMI
