Chain/Rope Hoist vs Lift (cherry picker)

Hoist on a tool rail for me. The cherry picker is notchy when moving across the floor, janky when extended up high, and mine would gradually drift down causing me to have to stop what is was doing and crank it back where I wanted it. Plus you have to store the cherry picker somewhere when not...

Looking to find the original window sticker for reprint 1984

Once you have the invoice from the Heritage Center with the authentic RPO content you can contact Jeff to have a new SPID label made. Jeff@outintheshop .com https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/new-to-the-site-help-with-my-1979-c10-chevy-sport.48095/page-3#post-1028013 For a new reproduction...

Nobody warned me about the MPGs on these square bodies!

I think the best I did was 26 mpg. Normally around 22 mpg or so. That's 4.3L TBI, MY6 manual overdrive, 3.73 rear axle and P235/75R15 tires. Truck is a 1/2 swb, lowered about 4 inches, with the 4wd front air dam. Mine was a daily for 30 years and 200k miles. K

New to the site: Help with my 1979 C10 Chevy Sport

Armed with this new RPO information you could have a new SPID label made. Blanks are available, or you could have one commercially made by someone with a lot of practice. [email protected]

New to the site: Help with my 1979 C10 Chevy Sport

This is the new stuff. It has not yet been mentioned that because the OPs vehicle is a '79 model year truck the original invoice would be available through the Heritage Center. This document would contain all the original build RPO content, pricing including any applicable discounts, build...

For those of you that mentioned the generic info packet in the GM Heritage Center - thank you. Well done. My work there is complete.

New to the site: Help with my 1979 C10 Chevy Sport

This is a SPID label (Service Parts ID label) This defines the option content of the specific vehicle so you can buy the correct service part. 99% of the time this is placed in the glove box (along with the camper label. All pickups got a camper label, too) but some plants, like Janesville...

New to the site: Help with my 1979 C10 Chevy Sport

This is a build sheet sheet. This is the document the assembly line workers use to know which part to put on the vehicle. Sometimes there is a lot of proliferation of similar parts; sometimes the installation occurs way back in the bowels of the plant so there are not any context clues for...

Transmission lengths and transmission humps for 70s trucks + clutch cylinder discussion

Floor shifted manual trans C trucks (MY6 and M20) got high humps, as did all 4wd K trucks. Column shifted 2wd C trucks (M62/M64 manual, plus all auto trans) got low hump floors. K

Agree. Most people switch from 6 lug to 5 lug. This is the first time I've ever heard of going the other way. K

I usually ask for/search parts for an '86 C10 pick for my 87 R10. That gets me everything except anything TBI related. K

    Color code rear step bumper

Geez. I just thought of an even better story (closer to home): I ordered my '87 just like my dad and I always did: six cylinder, manual trans, manual windows, manual locks, rubber floor mat. But I added a few trinkets to make it more pleasant, like power steering, power brakes and (later)...

    Color code rear step bumper

BIG sidebar: Oddly enough - that happened with my '65 GTO. It was ordered with the tach/rally cluster (RPO 504) but was built without. No idea why. We stuck a Sun tach on the column after we got it home, which is still on there. Modifications to an order that occur before the build sheet is...

Ah. So you DO have the SPID and it shows V43. Yes - that proves it conclusively. The dealer form is cool to have, too. K

    Color code rear step bumper

Deeper discussion: Not to be a pedant, but - I don't think we know that for sure. We do know base equipment is "no rear bumper". You stated you don't have the SPID label (in the glovebox) so you can't verify your truck came with RPO V43 added. You also can't order the original invoice from...

    Color code rear step bumper

RPO V43 is for rear step bumper. No color is specified (my recollection is that factory painted step bumpers were argent silver). The recipe for the white used for wheels and front bumper was not documented. Others may be able to comment on what has worked well for them. Because the base...
