I don't think you'll ever get that unless you can talk directly to the first couple of owners. K

Looks like it. Built in Oshawa (Plant code 1). That means GM of Canada would also have the build information, if you want to go that route. https://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/ K

If you are trying to find out carfax/online/ownership history - it might not be compatible with their database because of the number of characters (or lack thereof) in the VIN. Or maybe you are including some extraneous characters. Post the VIN here (minus the last six numbers) and we can tell...

What are you trying to find out from the VIN? If you want to know the original option content there should be a SPID label (service parts ID label) in the glovebox or front fender inner wheelwell that shows all the options it came with originally. Generic info packet from the Heritage Center...

Ty - I never quite know how much to share. K

Think I found a somewhat rare truck

Craig - post the VIN (The prefix, not the serial portion) and I can tell you the model year and probably engine option. If you have the SPID it will show on there. If you don't have the SPID then you should be able to order the original invoice from the GM heritage center archive.

Replacing a single frame rail, can it be done?

Lastly - the assembly plant repair for a missing or miss hit rivet was a 3/8" grade 8 bolt with corresponding washers and nut. K

Replacing a single frame rail, can it be done?

While I'm thinking of it - additional detail on how the frames were received and assembled might be helpful. I should mention that frames were received completely disassembled, that is, individual frame side rails, all the various crossmembers, brackets, rivets, etc were all received loose at...

Optimal engine temperature for max HP?

Mid 60 deg F. General Motors has climate controlled cells, as you might expect. Data is corrected back to "Standard", which is 59 deg at sea level. Monitoring just ambient air temp, or humidty, or baro doesn't cut it. Plus - air density alone is super clunky to work with. The thing I care...

Optimal engine temperature for max HP?

My Chevelle race engine made peak power on the dyno at 164 deg coolant temp. I can't hit that consistently after the car has been driven so I try to start my burnout at 180 deg coolant temp every time, and then monitor throughout the run. I'm giving away some power but consistency is key.

Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

I see that today is June 11th. It was June 11, 1979 that I started with GM. By way of review: retired from GM in February of 2019. Started with Nissan in May of 2109, and retired (again) May 1st of 2025. One month into being retired for reals - :headbang:

    FUEL TANK CAPACITY 1982 K10 4x4

Perfect - yes. You can see how it flips between 16 and 20 depending on wheel base, GVW and single/dual tank. K

    FUEL TANK CAPACITY 1982 K10 4x4

Keep in mind there's still going to be about three gallons unusable fuel in the tank even if you run it "dry". The correct answer is either 16 or 20. Those are your choices. K

    FUEL TANK CAPACITY 1982 K10 4x4

Just dual. Single would always be 20 gal. K

    FUEL TANK CAPACITY 1982 K10 4x4

Long wheel base or short? SWB = 16 gal LWB = 20 gal Link to GM Heritage Center generic info packet ==> https://www.gm.com/content/dam/company/no_search/heritage-archive-docs/vehicle-information-kits/chevrolet-trucks/1982-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf K

Stock Cold air intake performance upgrades

You could add another tube and snorkel to the LH side. There is a knockout in the rad support to allow the installation of another "birdcage". I ran this setup on my Chevelle with the flat hood and it was worth .2 sec reduction in ET in the quarter. K

    Drive shaft too short

What if - You just undid the springs at the rear shackle and let the back of the truck down four inches? Check the yoke then and see where it ends up. The front drop (or lack thereof) should not affect this. K
