What new tools have you got lately?

Been wanting a set of these tube benders for awhile.....saw them 1/2 off clearance and bagged them. Just finishing up my new crossover fuel lines so I imagine they'll be battle tested then.

    Tank strap issue

My brackets are all original and in perfect shape. I figured out what the top hole in the bracket was for and had no more issues after that. A wonder no one ever noted that in any manuals (that I have seen).

Looked at a truck today, odd rust, thoughts

That doesnt mean it couldnt have at one time been someplace there was one.

Looked at a truck today, odd rust, thoughts

After the last few years.....wonder if it was ever in a flood? I remember looking at a car for someone about 10 yrs ago. Very clean but (heavier) rust in odd spots.....like the dash brackets, or inside the floor shifter bucket. Then I pulled the horn cap off and it was flaking-scaled rust...

    Fuel tank/pump replacement

I bought SKF bearings exclusively for well over a decade.....then found out that they, like the others, have a 3 tiered system: same boxes, same PNs, same packaging.....but 3 levels of quality. One was the original Swedish, $65; one was Mexico, $40; and another china, $15. Only way to tell on...

    Fuel tank/pump replacement

fwiw.....Airtex used to be Canadian, now 100% chi-com.....and the really cheap chi-coms to boot. I used to use them in alot of 4-N cars until high failure rates and then the best part: would find a large number literally wired backwards from the factory. Not sure what sweat shop Bosch uses...

    Tank strap issue

I kind of see it as someday you may need that inch or two to service something......without tearing the whole thing apart.

    Tank strap issue

Epilogue (those of you who watched the FBI in Color as kids will know what this means)..... So I still had some issues with getting the front strap back in....and then it dawned on me: I know what that extra hole in the top of the front bracket is for. I took the bracket off and set the tank...

    Tank strap issue

Now that I've seen pics of 16s and 20s.....here's where I think I am: I had 16's and thought they were 20s. Thought it was off because of the amount off the senders were at (but they would be being setup for 16s and I have 20s). Then I saw this online - a factory 20 (duals) and see where the...

    Tank strap issue

I had an 86 K10 long bed 30+ yrs ago that had dual 20s. I never heard of dual 16's. If I can confirm that the filler hoses will fit up ok, I'm going to put the straps back where they were (and fit perfectly) and then make new crossover lines that will accommodate the sending units being...

    Tank strap issue

Thats where I had it - and everything fit fine....except the sending units were way off to the crossover lines. I'd also like to know if the crossover lines are different for a 16 vs a 20?

    Tank strap issue

Is there anything in the SROs that would say what it came with? I asssssumed duals would be 20s. But now this leads me back to where do the straps actually go on these tanks as I was comparing them to the original tanks. I'd like to find a pic of dual 20s exposed.

    Tank strap issue

These new tanks are visibly different from the originals. Look at the distance from the sender to the rear and where the original straps were. Also the distance from the rear of the tank and the spring hanger. I almost wonder if I had dual 16's (is that possible?). But the new tanks are...

    Tank strap issue

How that centers in that hole is exactly how it sat prior to moving it - the rear sits the same way. Only after moving it does it not fit (and only goes into the top hole). Zero chance it goes to the bottom like it was. Only thing I can think is that with 100 aftermarket suppliers, are these...

    Tank strap issue

The front end of the tank swells in size as it molds into the top / sender. Moving the tank up 5", the front half goes from strapping over the smaller diameter to the larger molded area - plus, the strap is also now perpendicular to the 'swell' and on a slight incline....so the diameter and how...

    Tank strap issue

No one is beating dents in the tanks - the seams are 10x the size they need to be and every-fking-one has to bend them down for it to even begin to fit. A terrific design. Geezus. Pics say what they are - when the tank is repositioned to be where it needs to be, it isn't even close to the front...

    Tank strap issue

Yep - first thing I checked. The front has 2 holes at the top and has a more cathedral shape at the top. It fits fine everyplace but where it needs to go - that area of the tank bulges more (towards the top). Can tell its a wider area to clamp on. I almost thought of getting a union nut and some...

Were yours also difficult to install or were they rotted (why you made custom bands)? I can use a ratchet strap with no cab in the way but ever having to service this in the future sounds ludicrous.
