    Factory Engine Color???

So GM did not have enough smog ready engines in the late 1970's. The small block 350 Chevy engine found it's way into other GM car lines. Customers complained, "I got this expensive Buick with a Chevy engine" So GM painted all the engines black. Most customers didn't know one engine from...

Nobody warned me about the MPGs on these square bodies!

@WranglerTJForum You may have forgot, these trucks were designed in the early 1970's. Gasoline was 30 cents a gallon. 16 gallons is kind of small, but the short beds were the compact trucks of the day. 20 gallons for large cars and trucks was the norm. Heck, GM just finally move the fuel tank...

    Courtesy light, cigarette sockets

I'm glad you got the cigarette lighter figured out. Now you can have tunes. I think you are wrong about Tony Stark. Remember, he built the first Iron Man, in a cave under duress.

    Ambulance Vans!

^^^ Just a movie prop van, 1/2 ton. About the D.O.T. tape removal, need full attack. Take a razor scraper, remove the sharp edge with a few drag passes on smooth sandpaper. Start to lift one end with the scraper then add glue solvent as you go. Cigarette lighter fluid works or the real 3M...

    Color code rear step bumper

Some dealers ordered trucks without a rear bumper and radio. Add aftermarket radio and bumper, then price point lower than the neighboring dealers. Any one price shopping would buy the the base model from them.

Anyone know what this bracket is for?

Can't tell the size from the picture. Some trucks had a vacuum switch mounted on the valve cover. The harness and switch had a clip that mounted on a bracket like that.

Show me your lowered truck. The lower the better!

That Shelby Spearco turbo system I installed on my 1982 GMC in the summer of 1982. That is what was available 40 years ago. Took a couple months of tweaking to get it good. Added a waist gate and more. The blow through carb systems back then required many carburetor mods. The picture was early...

    454 valve adjustment

Scraping noise could be the timing chain, water pump or push rods. About the push rods, those 454's could have one of 3 different diameter push rods. The push rod guide plates need to be the right size. Some of the cast heads may have a smaller hole cast in the head where the push rod goes...

    Replacement carburetor recommendations

So, the '82 250 6 cyl. (4.1) was built with the integral head/exhaust manifold. They cracked, exhaust leak happened. The replacements were hard to get. The quick fix was pull everything from the head up from the older 250. Plenty of these in the salvage yards. This would have a 1 barrel carb.

    Spark plug debate: CR43TS 44s or 45s in 1989 350

@Ricko1966 has posted good info on spark plugs. This chart shows the major difference between a hot and cold plug. The "R" means it is a resistor plug, as most are now. The resistor is to combat FM radio interference. You may have experienced an older vehicle pulling up at a stop light next to...

    Help on speedometer spline

Automatic transmissions have a wide assortment of speedo drive and driven gears. Manual trans and some transfer cases do not.
