    Finally got a running 65 C10

finally dropped the dizzy and plug wires in it today, it’s running. I don’t like the way it’s so punchy out back, I’m going to change the pipes. It has exhaust leaks at the collectors, I forgot to tighten them. I need to play with the timing a little bit. The brass freeze plugs that were leaking...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

No, I didn’t use sealant. I’ve never seen anyone personally use sealant on freeze plugs so I had no idea. I’ve never had an issue and I’ve built a few engines. I think I’m going to replace the one that’s leaking really badly upfront, I already got it out. Then I’m going to drop a distributor in...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Last night I put the spark plugs in which was a beast because these headers are terrible. You can only reach number six from underneath and tighten with a wrench. I’ve had way better truck headers before. I bolted up the header collectors with the new copper gaskets. I put cotter pins in all of...

Few more items today, need to go buy a real spark plug socket, swear I’ve had a dozen over the years but none to be found now. I broke one already. I also got a spark plug hole chaser

Yes, It has 8 gauge from the battery to the core support, and 2 gauge from battery to engine. I just need to go to frame.

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Stupid question that I'm not shy to ask cause its been a long time....main negative battery cable goes to frame rail? What about engine to frame or firewall? I dont think this truck had one...

Got the poppy’s patina gloss clear coat wiped on and I think it’s gonna look good when it dries. Def will stop it from rusting. Have done nothing mechanical to it but gonna buy some spark plugs tomorrow at least lol

And poorly designed engine **** like DOD Poor truck dropped a lifter and hammered the cam last year, that was a 5000 dollar fix, getting rid of all that crap and installing new stuff. Then, the converter took a dump in the trans. Both known issues

Obligatory picture next to my wife’s stock height trail boss, always amazes me how much bigger trucks have gotten.

Got the starter in and hooked up. Got both headers in and hooked up, collectors not hooked up yet. Hooked up the oil pressure sending unit thing. I still need to order a distributor, plugs, wires, fluids when I can afford it. This economy seems to be killing construction here.

    Finally got a running 65 C10

The problem is you have to either remove the fuel pump or go underneath the truck to get the passenger side bolt in the motor mount, and you have to be a contortionist to do the left side from the top of the truck. Bottom line it’s not a great design, not as great as the horizontal bolt that...

Got the engine/trans bolted down, left side header in (bitch) Z bar in (bitch) and working on the clutch linkage. Looks like I'm missing the number 3 piece on this link https://www.lmctruck.com/mechanical/clutch/cbe-1963-66-clutch-linkage so I'll have to order that

    Finally got a running 65 C10

It is what it is, Just search online and youll find tons of articles about it. Especially compared to the squarebody mounts with the horizontal bolts I got them in, and easier than having to mount the trans under the truck btw

There’s actually a guy posted that worked on the assembly line and said they had to loosen the frame mounts just to get the bolts started…..

There’s actually many threads out there on various websites about the difficulty of getting these bolts in. Poor design compared to 73+

Got the hood off, engine in and hood back on in an hour It needs to go back about an inch for the bolts to fit. Those 60s motor mounts are way harder to line up than a square body it seems

Here’s a question. I was noticing that the valve stem guide Seals are being held up in many instances by the inner spring. Will these receipt and stay where they need to be as the valve spring compresses?

I’m going to wait to drop the engine in until I can buy a new distributor. This one has seen better days. Cap coil and rotor too. Work has been super slow lately. It’s been grocery money only.

I ended up using an old spark plug wire as suggested earlier. Got it close to the top, stuck the plug wire in as far as it would go, and then turned the engine over until the piston wouldn’t move anymore.
