    Finally got a running 65 C10

Well a new alternator fixed it, didn’t need a lightning cube but I did charge it beforehand. Decided to figure out the defrost in this truck since it’s getting colder here finally. Turns out I don’t have the deluxe heater, which doesn’t surprise me, I have the thrift. Which is a single pull...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Well, we went to the car show, had a really good time. Didn’t place. Didn’t expect to. One thing I have always found odd about local car shows is the amount of late model cars winning awards. Out of 30 cars there, mostly all classics, the car that won best of show was a 2018 orange 50th...

    Make a 355 fun?

Some of ya'll following on my other threads...I've got the 65 C10 with the 283 and it does great, drives as it should https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/finally-got-a-running-65-c10.46198/ But I've got my old engine back that me and dad had machined and put back together in the shed probably...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Pulled into the garage and my 7 year old son said “I like that smell” I said that’s V8 exhaust with no cats and he said well I like it. Proud dad moment. Taking him to his second car show Sunday, might enter the truck

I could see remnants of red lettering from 1965 so I felt obliged to go buy a paint marker from hobby lobby and redo it

Well, I feel better. It never gets below 35 lbs so I guess it’s just fine. I really wish I could show you guys just how much nicer this truck is to drive once I backed way off of those valves. It reminds me of my blue 85C 10 that I put the 305 into. Light and nimble.

    Finally got a running 65 C10

All right, so I put the new push rods in, cranked the engine, and just loosened each rocker until it started the tick, and then I tightened it down until it stopped, probably less than a half a turn each one. I did this for every rocker, on both sides. It seems to run way better, I have zero...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Thanks, I’m hopeful this will fix it. Just got home with the push rods and the valve cover I’m going to cut open. If it doesn’t work out, I have the 350 that I built available from my 85K 10 that I sold my buddy. It’s a good reliable I used the two fingers, and probably over did it

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Yeah new cam lifters and springs, I did the “turn the pushrod and tighten till it stops then half a turn” method when I put it back together. But then we adjusted them running and I couldn’t hear them to get them not clattering because of the open headers. I’m slapping in 2 replacement rods...

The more I listen to my exhaust video the more I think that was just loose rockers not a rod knock

    Finally got a running 65 C10

just super loose rockers caused this?

Hell maybe it wasn’t rod knock just super loose rockers

    Finally got a running 65 C10

That was the whole that I initially grabbed it with the pic from. But when I had it halfway out, it fell and went into the abyss. I guess I could try to find a smaller magnet. But what about the Rod knock sound?

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Spent all day and 300 dollars building my own exhaust. I really like how it came out, and it sounds good. I’m still having problems getting it to idle. I haven’t got a vacuum gauge yet. But now that the headers are quiet I can hear loose rockers so I was about to snug them up, when I heard...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

The carb was on it when I bought it. The mixture screws do change the engine characteristics. I watched a video of an old timer on how to set the mixture screws with a vac gauge on the carb I had and he said screw them all the way in then back out 2 turns. Then adjust with gauge from there so...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Took this video while getting gas. Going to get a vacuum gauge this week and fool with those mixture screws. Has bad vapor lock. Drove it like 80 miles today, and at one point coming down from 70 mph to a stoplight, it quit and I let it sit for a while, poured ice water on the fuel pump and...

Got the seatbelts in and tested. Drove the truck about 20 minutes at 70 and it did great other than being loud as hell still. Got some hard stares when I’d stop at a light and it would go to chopping hard.

My dad had a valve cover that was cut like that. I don’t know where it went. I used the cardboard method.

    Finally got a running 65 C10

Well guys, bad news. I loaded the truck up on the trailer to bring it to my friends house closer to my house, and ruined the passenger fender, bumper, and scraped the door. I thought I had enough room on that side, but it didn’t work out. Sucks but it is what it is. I can get another fender, it...

Sorry, when it comes to the fine details of engine tuning, I don’t know ****. I don’t even have a vacuum gauge anymore. I will get one though. Coming off the valves seemed to do wonders for how the engine is running. It doesn’t alternate idle speeds like it did before. I still think it might...

Adjusting the valves with the truck running seemed to help immensely, although it was messy as hell.
