What kind of lift kit would you recommend

As far as steering correction after you do a lift you can do a drop steering arm off the steering gearbox or a raised steering arm. Some say you want the drag link parallel to the ground. That is only an accurate statement when your truck is stock height. As you raise it you leaf springs start...

What kind of lift kit would you recommend

To figure out gear ratios check out this page: https://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Gear_ratio_check#:~:text=On some ring gears, there, for a Dana 44 differential. One way to do it without popping off the diff cover is jack up the back of the truck and make a mark on a tire and on the...

What kind of lift kit would you recommend

I'm in the Kalispell/Whitefish part of the state. Since the truck still needs to do some work and haul things I'd probably recommend the Tuff Country HD front springs since you have the big block and then remove the front sway bar. (*AND if you think it rides too rough you can simply remove the...

What kind of lift kit would you recommend

Hey- someone else from Montana! Welcome! To offer the best advice need some more input: -What is the budget for this? Cheap as possible? There is a wide range of prices and options. -Truck still need load carrying capacity? -Looking for as soft of a ride as possible? -Any offroading? What...

Building a Vortec Head SBC 350

Oh boy- this question. I bought a GM crate engine: the HT383. From GM itself it says you have to use a bypass. I did a TON of searching. Some guys said they had to, others said they didn't as they just used their heater core. I tried just the heater core bypass. (*The stock GM performance...

ORD rear shock mount brackets installed...

I bought a set of those but then gave them to a friend of mine because they interfered with my 5th wheel trailer hitch bracket. :(

    Steering Gearbox Blues

I too had issues with rebuilds (for me it was O'Reilly Auto). It took me 3 of them to get a good 4wd steering gear. Then when it was time to do crossover steer I needed a 2wd steering box. Didn't have the $$$ at the time for PSC or Redhead (both are good) and did a bunch of research. Lares...

    Tank replacement for EFI

What is the sump doing when it gets hot? Pump stops? Pressure drops? Idle surges? I have their E-street TBI unit with the remote sump mounted on the passenger side between the headlight and the radiator. Haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary so far. Planning on changing out the TBI to...

    New "Old" Daily - 8.1L

The 8.1L is a 496 and was the replacement gas engine for the 454. I miss that engine in my old '03 Silverado. They do like using oil... it used a lot less oil switching from 5W-30 to 10W-30 synthetic.

    Fouling issues

Perhaps a dumb question- but are you sure the choke is opening and staying open?

    Burnouts with a NP203 full time 4wd?

My dad once told me a story when I was growing up how he would take his 1959 Chevy and have it roll backwards then he'd rev it up in neutral and drop it in drive. It was the only way he could do a burnout. Well- that story stuck with me and my 1978 K5 full time 4 blazer with a 400 was my first...

    hello everyone

Nice truck- thanks for sharing some pics with us. After years of ignoring LS engine swaps I'm now suddenly interested in them. Have you ever bothered to figure out gas mileage on that? Just curious... I've never seen those mufflers before either. Welcome to the site! :welcome:

    Tilden Motorsports LS used engines

So my father in law offered me his old GMC K15.(1984?) It has been sitting in a field since probably 2003? If I remember right it has the 305, and he said it ran horrible when parked. I'm sure it hasn't gotten any better. I started thinking about just putting a "generic" GM crate engine into...

Detroit steel wheel delreys on 37s

Yep- those were it! At work we have large round tubs of teflon and those remind me of the teflon press there. Are those the same wheels in the top pic with the baby moon hubcaps? Hard for me to tell on my monitor... looks like they are. If so I do like those. Amazing the difference. You...

Detroit steel wheel delreys on 37s

I like it with those wheels and color. I think I saw someone has the 20" version and painted something odd- like white. Didn't look right in my opinion. Funny to see a 37 next to a stock tire. Been so long since I've run stock size it is shocking to see them side by side.

Snow wheeling. Now I want to re-configure...

Ok, saved some of the pics and reposted. I'll add a few more here. There was a big snowdrift that ran right down the middle of the road. Probably 7' deep- and the best way around it was just to take the ditch. I'm glad I got the right offset to push my tires out so I didn't scrape body panels...

    Shocks?

Just go with the best price. I'd recommend some KYB shocks as they should be in the same ballpark.

Snow wheeling. Now I want to re-configure...

Went back up the same road- but without the almost stock vehicles. Made it up and over the mountains. Tough ride. Some parts still had sugar snow on the north facing slopes. Then the sun came out and it warmed up. Had some nice wet snow and a few downed trees. Right off the bat the snowbank...

    Atlas Leaf Springs

I don't know anything about Atlas springs... but when I wanted new 56" stock height rear leaf springs I did a bunch of research. Found a lot that recommended Dayton spring. They are apparently the same as TRW which is also supposed to be good. And I found the rear springs on Rock Auto- which...

    Protecting catalytic converters?

I have read two articles here in Montana in the last month about this. Mainly Billings and Missoula are having this problem. Some people were even hit twice. F'in thieves waited for them to take their vehicle in and get fixed just to hit it again. :banghead: The articles had some suggestions...

EZ Ride springs: Regular or HD

Sorry for a slight thread jack here- what about on stock rear springs? I've heard that some flip the overload leaf on the bottom upside down but have you ever cut that stock leaf down?

New Leaf Springs...How did I goof it up?

The axle is in the same place. The center pin of the 56" spring pack isn't in the center. It is offset. (26"/30") You just have to make sure that the short part goes forward. The 52" springs have the center pin in the center (26"/26")

So Does Everyone HATE This Steering Wheel?

I took out my stock wheel to get a smaller one because I: -don't have a tilt wheel -have a lifted truck without any sort of steps. Easier to hop in and out of -don't ram my legs as easily against the steering wheel when hitting unexpected bumps off roading -have more room to roll the driver's...

Wire coming out of rear shocks

I believe he was talking about a shackle flip- where instead of a tension style shackle it is a compression shackle. Here was a pic when I was installing the 2.5" shackle flip lift. The stock shackle and rubber bushing does not allow free movement of the shackle- so you get a rougher ride...

Wire coming out of rear shocks

ORD is now making beefed up stock style tension hangers. They allow the shackle to move a lot for a nicer ride.
