    ALDL data logging

Cool - thanks - sounds like I will start with the PROM availability then, as all the hardware is easier to source. Thanks for the warning ..

    ALDL data logging

Ha! - we have 3 Subs in various states of decay ( its a disease I tell ya! ). Trucks I am interested in are my son's 1991 OBS K2500 with a 350 / 700R4 and TBI, and my 1990 OBS 2wd TBI 350/ NP3500. Will post a build thread under "other vehicles" at some point. The '73 Sub is a 454 with a carb...

    ALDL data logging

I had figured ALDL ( in its various forms ) from 1981 up OBD1 ( non standard ) 1982 through 93/95? OBD2 - 1996 on I think that's what you listed above - it would be real nice to have a definitive timeline / table of the different protocols, and the tools /options required to talk to each one...

    ALDL data logging

so did the MT2500 with the right cartridge read ALDL GM outputs? Anyone have any direct experience with the Snap On system ? Maybe ( another ) dumb question - I am assuming all the scanner hook up gear is to enable graphing real time data ?, as you can read the stored flash codes using a...

    ALDL data logging

What is FTDI, and why should ( you ) care - Because I'm dumb, lazy and have an engineers brain, I have a/. done everything I can to avoid learning about micro electronics and programming and remained a "user" for as long as possible and b/. need every last detail explained and presented...

    ALDL data logging

Hmmm - see there is going to be some work to be done here. I assume the Moates cable is effectively what is shown on the OBD "do it yourself" setup described above, you are just paying for the convenience of not having to find and assemble all the components ? ..

    Rack and Pinion Conversion

@Torrey - thanks very much for taking the time to post this. Will have a good look through the kit info and options shown. Any thoughts on how she drives now, compared to the OEM steering box set-up? that is the real test. Thanks again

1 inch bolts on a SB Chevy?

spend the money on a good quality ( dewalt / milwaukee ) 1/2" drive cordless impact wrench. With a set of 1/2" 6 sided impact sockets that will remove anything you are working on for a c/k truck. You will ask yourself why you didn't do this sooner ..

    ALDL data logging

Cool - glad to have found this thread - hopefully we can make this a single place for ALDL info? Pics of cable ends and ECU access point would be great ( for those of us too lazy to get our butt off the sofa and poke around under the dash right now .. ;-)

Chain/Rope Hoist vs Lift (cherry picker)

Would kill a Holmes twin boom for my K30 .. lovely ( interesting side note - if you watched the latest Mad Max movie - Furiousa - the twin boom holmes on the truck was for sale over here before they built all the movie vehicles, but I missed out on getting it .. ) Also in the club of too much...

Intermittent High Idle and Occasional Hesitation on Acceleration

Seconded - not to hijack the OP, but is there an ALDL thread / sticky on here that actually shows what is needed / how/where to plug in, required cable ends, software / scanner suppliers, years affected ( GM ALDL v carb v OBD 2 ) etc. ? Agree this would help a lot of people here. If not maybe...

    Tremec TR-4050 swap

I would think that 2wd ( C trucks ) v. 4wd ( K trucks ) would be 2 completely different cases? I'm all in with a T56 / ls1/2/3 etc. swap for 2wd - fast shifting for a street racer, however surely you are not worried about street racing or autocrossing your K truck? 4wd would be all about...

    Been Lurking For Years

Awesome - this is an interesting subject, as there is so much to "get wrong" ! I'm sure many people here would be very interested in seeing some real world experience ( as opposed to a sales pitch ). From picking the right ( and available ) parts, mounting, accounting for lowered spindles and...

EGR tests good, but code 32!

I have been reading these 2 books. Really interesting stuff, given that my kids refer to me as "old school" etc, etc. and prefer the whole duct tape and carb approach.

EGR tests good, but code 32!

@RaysnCayne - buy a cheap OBDII scan tool and a book on the OBD system. Total investment under $50bucks. I have just done this, and it has opened up a whole new world of knowledge regarding how the OBD system was designed to work. Bottom line is DO NOT just engage the "parts gun" to fix stuff...

Welcome from Australia. Sweeeet truck bro - super cheyenne trim, fully loaded - Nice ! AS stated above, get the mechanicals sorted first, trim and upholstery is last. Keep at it - slow and steady. this will be a nice truck when done. Lots of help here and on the 67-72 board. FWIW - if its...

11 inch drums fix or Disk brake conversion?

If you want some good real world advice on 14 bolt disc conversions, read through the Billavista.com site. He has great technical advice, and trail experience. Before deciding to swap over ( and after discovering the actual cost and work involved in doing it "right" ), you need to be clear...
