I made custom polyurethane radiator mounts
Oh, maybe that’s why I got away with it. Mine is an ‘81. What year is yours? I wasn’t aware there was such a difference. It’s definitely not perfect, it kind of sits on the weld, but the soft rubber originals seem to do the trick.- ChuckN

Stock 400 small bock with bigger cam
looks like a couple are gunky with oil. Given that they’re all within 10psi of each other, I’d say you could use some valve seals. But that’s just my guess. Some are looking pretty powdery.- ChuckN

Good reading about zinc and oil
I used to run Lucas 5000 ppm zinc additive in our old ‘54. That was a bad idea. But I got away with it. The fact that I started it up frequently and ran it probably helped keep the corrosion away. I’m using the XE274H Comp Cams. Some have said they’re a little hard on the valvetrain because of the ramps, but for such a small cam, they get great results With 1.52 rockers, will be right around .500 lift. Golds Garage dynoed it (383) at 450hp, and above 2500, has 400+ft-lb across the...- ChuckN

Heard good stuff about this Isky lube. As far as springs go, I called Comp and they said the springs I have (recommended for the cam) and the pressure open and at seat is good for break in. They only have non-removable damper spring anyway.- ChuckN

The Comp Cams DLC (diamond like carbon) lifters showed up. Taper shows everything looks ok. Heard good stuff about these from people. Apparently it really helps it survive break in.- ChuckN

Nice! Sounds like you have a good handle on it. TBF, the Edelbrock was probably at a severe disadvantage. The engine was probably a little over cammed, which made hard to tune around that (I bought the truck that way). It was rich off idle, lean on cruise, rich at WOT and the rods/jet setup...- ChuckN

Preferred SBC intake manifold bolts?
Thanks! I do know some guys just use ultra grey or black. Is that the same thing I’m supposed to use on the ARP head bolts? I think ARP has a special pipe dope that isn’t supposed to affect torque readings.- ChuckN

Preferred SBC intake manifold bolts?
I ended up going with ARP black 12 point 134-2101 since I got a good deal on them. I thought about the SS, but my ARP head bolts will be black so thought I’d make them all match. 1” worked fine before but I’ll be careful with installing. Thanks all!- ChuckN

Just checking in before I go buy some. The Allen head style I had on before, well, I didn’t love them. The ones directly below the carb were always a PITA. I was going to clean mine up and reuse them, but I’m going another direction. I was thinking that the smaller head 12 point might be nice...- ChuckN
