On new tool I’ll be getting is a torque wrench. If y’all have a recommendation let me know. I won’t be able to afford a snap on, lol. I decided a while back that I wanted a new one before I do the aluminum head install. The one I have is 30 years old and was pretty generic even back then. -

Apparently the Brodix heads are recommended for Champions RN12YC. But having header clearance (as a lot of us do), searching out for shorter plug becomes a task of cross referencing all the various acronyms and alphanumeric jargon out there. Getting after the rust encapsulation. Great day to be huddled in the garage out of the rain. I pried the old plugs out of the rockers where the “rust prevention “ was applied when the truck was new-ish. Sprayed some internal frame encapsulator by Eastwood. It’s a pretty trick little gadget. -

Waiting for the HVAC inspector, got bored in the garage. Before I knew it I had the wire brush, acetone and the Motor Coater out. Don’t know how good it is but it goes on THICK. I like it. When I have it all torn down later, I’ll do more, but at least I got rid of the chips and flakes on the front. -

Yesterday, I was low census at work so I scooted home and hopped in the truck for a cruise. I stopped by Dunn’s to check on the cylinder heads but he’s been backlogged with marine engine work, so he’s getting to them this week…allegedly. It’s a nice reason for a drive anyway since it’s at the... -

Yeah, beefy stands with a wide footprint is where it’s at. I sometimes wish that they’d use some kind of rubber on the stand contact- metal on metal can be slippery. -

Hood River is an amazing area. In the winter, you can head from the Portland rain and drive to HR and the weather magically disappears. I imagine that’s good living there- Hood is just south and you can enjoy the snow, and drive back out of it into the sun. -

Took a look at that rocker stud that I’d mentioned a while back. Preload is the same, nothing has moved. Put the valve cover back on and went for a cruise. The rain is coming back tomorrow and the leaves are amazing right now. Haven’t heard from the machine shop yet, but I’m not hurried. I... -

Thanks bud! Honestly I’ll probably switch back over to my rallies for the winter as soon as I find a way to store the Halibrands without scratching them. The garage space is limited and they’d probably be best stored in the crawl space but it’s a backbreaking venture. -

Dropped the Brodix heads off at Dunn’s Machine Shop to have them looked over. Stayed and shot the $hit for a while and talked cars, about everything really. He gets a bad rap for being grumpy, but if you spend some time and are generally interested in engines, cars, etc, he will keep you there... -

Welcome! As far as the big block goes, Derek at Vice Grip Garage on YT did a budget build on a 454 and took it to the dyno. They’re worth a watch. He uses some iron heads that are GM that apparently flow well and obtainable for every guy. I think he approaches 500hp, but can’t quite remember...- ChuckN

To review, I’ll be putting on some Brodix IK200 aluminum heads (after I have them gone over for QA at a local shop). A couple questions came to mind.
