Fix this Paint? Any ideas that I do not have to repaint the whole Suburban?

Nope Base coat doesn’t shine up. And it is or it should be effectively to thin to even try it without burning through.

New to Trucks- Want to Purchase a patina project

How much you looking to spend? The right “look” that is running driving and solid AND real original patina is either an anomaly or a patchwork pony or has a bunch of time and money into it. For the right price I’d sell you my ‘77. You’d have to let it cook in the sun for a couple years to get...

    16.5 to 16 wheels 1977 Chevy C20

^What he said. Seeing you’re in Europe, there ain’t stacks of old 8 lug Chevy rims laying behind people’s garages. You have to decide your budget as new wheels would come from here across the pond, right? If you’re intent on keeping the poverty caps and minimizing cost, you could find whatever...

    brake valve help

I concur but the semi floater is a 7500lb axle which is plenty for any srw old square body. If you’re putting more than 5klbs payload in the back of any old c channel frame 3/4 ton regularly or long distance, you’re abusing the hell out of the rest of the truck. With any luck you’d break the axle...

Need advice on what to do.

Right? Never got to be winter in most areas. Good news is, the reservoirs are all plum full and busting at the seams. And even though they’re dumping water already, very unusual, there’s enough snowmelt left to come to keep em stuffed until irrigation season starts. Prediction this year is...

Need advice on what to do.

Sorry, derailed the rust talk. About that…. I’d do some poking around first. See how bad it is. You’d need a donor cab imo but the good news is most/all the repairs are hidden once u shut the doors and put new trim on the belt line.

Need advice on what to do.

Ha, you’re from Spokane. Just looked. I just moved out here last fall. Medical Lake. Not really. I’m about 5 miles NW of Fairchild. Funny you mention that. I’m getting ready to put up a shop and the snow load requirement is “only” 30 psf. Pretty typical for normal winter areas, central Midwest...

Interesting observation that makes sense. Not Western WA I’d imagine but the rest of the state I can totally see that and the whole PNW and intermountain region probably.

Disconnected fuel line in engine bay

Then it’s a different issue. Mph is an odd “trigger”. A delayed fuel delivery issue is either rpm/load related. Or time related. Look at it like that, not speed.

    Beauty Rings/With or Without

My thoughts exactly! That truck could be running on **** filled pool noodles and no one would care. It’s beautiful! More serious I’d start without. unless the rims are already scratched up from the trim rings.

What should I do with this toolbox?

Are you looking for creative suggestions to turn it into an arts and crafts project? If not, I’d suggest using it for tools or making some beer money off of it.

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

I’d caution against this. Idk why you’d take 400 grit to any old soft paint unless you were just trying to obliterate it completely. That ain’t cleaning, that’s sanding and the paint is already thin if it’s original and you’re trying to make it shine, not prep it for new paint.

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

That said I think some old paint that fades is just not able to be shined up. I have a 74 Jeep. Original paint except hood and 1 fender re painted. Orig is shiny. The repaint is not. And there’s zero improvement even with machine cutting or polishing. Who knows when it was repainted or with...

    brake valve help

Pretty confident 80s K20s C6P or not are semi floating axle. 70s were FF, not sure what year they changed or if they went back to FF in 87, but my 86 C6P which is by all accounts original has a SF rear axle and the landscape trucks I used to work on that were 80s K20s had SF as well. We had a...

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

There’s no luck involved. It’s just old paint. Assuming you don’t park it in that nice garage. If you did, it wouldn’t get dull. Even outdoors in the shade like a carport allows more uv. Hell, windows even doo. I seen an old car in this geezers garage been there for years untouched. The whole...

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

Looks great! But doesn’t look like it’s base/clear. Did it buff out clear or was the pad red after buffing?

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

Linseed oil mix, imo. Doesn’t last as long but won’t peel or be weird. I’ve never done it except on cars I’d flip with chitty paint back in the day so idk if it lasts a week or a year. Directly proportional to time out in the sun though.

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

You certainly don’t wan to lose that. Try a little by hand. If that’s original lacquer it’s extremely soft probably softer / thinner than the painted letters they look newer? Polishing compound not rubbing compound. Even glaze or swirl remover if polishing compound is too harsh. Also that...

    brake valve help

Yes that should work. Not nitpicking but your 87 3/4 ton shouldn’t have a full floater if it’s original. 99% certain. But good to know when ordering parts. I haven’t touched the LPSV on the 86 because the original brake lines are just too nice for me to hack up. I also haven’t figured out...

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

Not for @HUFFINCOSMOLINE application but I’ve seen, read, heard and have yet to try Zep high traffic floor polish. It builds on the surface and seems similar to the wipe on patina clears. A lot of use on oxidized gel coat and most with success, some complain about it peeling or yellowing but...

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

I think a lot has to do with environmental/ UV exposure. Slap that crap on something that is never out in the sun except when being driven occasionally and it probably last a long time. Park it in the AZ sun in the spring with a fresh patina sauce on it, it’ll be dust by Labor Day.

VGG 1776 Clear vs Poppy’s Glossed Out Clear

If your rig is already re-painted (you said clear and squares need before 2 stage OE paint jobs) and it’s actually clear coated and not failing (peeling or just cooked and gone) then IMo these wax on wax off clear coat products are just ruining what you already have.
