ANYONE USED VORTEC HIGH SWIRL HEADS ON THEIR GEN-I SBC?
There are several brands of inexpensive aluminum heads available for small blocks. Some complete sets are as cheap as $1000. It is easy to spend 4-500 rebuilding an OEM pair and that's if they aren't cracked. Looking back I should have done that on my last project.- fast 99

EFE to Manifold Gasket Question
Actually the later style header pipe to heat riser is much better with the spring style connection. The earlier stud/nut type would loosen up over time from frame and motor movement. There are different diameter outlets. You'd be better off taking the samples to a muffler shop or parts store and...- fast 99

Should find gasket design below goes against the manifold if the heat riser has a flat surface on the reverse. That style heat riser might be later model than the truck? May also need the spring style header pipe attaching kit. Not totally familiar with earlier trucks so correct me if wrong...- fast 99

Really tight front brakes!
Change the calipers when possible. After the road test you described rotors should have been very hot. Possibly both are seized. Be willing to bet pistons have varnish build up. -

From what I have seen Q jets don't have that many different jets sizes. Lots of metering rod changes. I saved metering rods and jets out of nearly every carb I scrapped. Mostly because water sat inside.- fast 99

If the rotors could be turned before calipers were installed its calipers. Although not set in stone my rule was replace calipers every second brake job. How many do you think your truck has had? -

Compare left side to right side front / same on rear. They won't be exactly the same but should be close. -

Yes, take a short drive get out and temp all 4 corners. Rotors on brake surface, drums on outside circumference. If reasonably even side to side try a couple moderately hard stops. Post the results. -

A heat gun can help diagnosis of uneven or dragging brakes. HF has them for less than $20. -

JB8 are higher GVW likely not what you have. Didn't mean to confuse you. There is at least one poster here that likes to jump on any little mistake. Covering my a**. -

All the previous suggestions are on point. Will add are the caliper slides free and lubed? There are 2 small o rings inside each caliper casting. Lube those as well. Use only high temp lube specifically designed for brakes. For noise abatement a thin film of brake lube on back of the pads... -

Those don't appear bad but should be machined. Machine shop doing the work will measure thickness. Usually, we just toss rotors. Not worth the labor time at a shop however those rotors have hubs and are more expensive to replace. Might be cost effective to machine them provided they are thick... -

Another possibility is bad calipers. When pads wear caliper pistons move outward take up the wear. When pushed back old piston surfaces are slid over rubber seals. With time and heat, brake fluid deteriorates into just plain crud. It's likely time for rebuilt calipers and hoses. -

There's no way an aftermarket carb manufacturer can supply a specific carb for a 302 Ford Mustang grocery getter and a different one for a 454 1 ton towing a...- fast 99

Edelbrock carbs on a 350 sm blk
May or may not be jetted or adjusted for the application. Never assume any off the shelf carb will be correct. Even something as simple as a 1" spacer could change the fuel mix from engine to engine. When GM designed Q jet carbs each application had a different calibration. Not so in the...- fast 99

Edlebrock carbs are decent however are generic. Get an AFR gauge/meter. It's much easier today to dial in carbs with one. Used to be had to go to a shop. Strip kit or whatever they are called: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T1JFJQW/- fast 99

Has multiple issues. Check for spark and plug condition. On that style carb choke thermostat is heated by the intake. There should be a operating heat riser. Most times on older vehicles there is some restriction to the crossover passage or stuck heat riser. Those need to be checked at some...- fast 99

1988 Suburban Door Locks
Simple powered circuit not through ECM. Check for power when solenoid in energized. If not present go upstream until there is power. Should also be power on the switch. Will work with key off. -
Help identify strange noise at Highway speed
Does anything change when put in neutral? A hole in the floor will amplify any noise. Is it possible to capture the noise on a video. What you describe is unusual.- fast 99

Any wire with a crimp on connector is not factory, such as the yellow wire near the flasher. Not saying that is all bad just trace it down. If not deleted make sure whatever it is powering doesn't overload that circuit.- fast 99
