    No lights !

The white wire is the ground trigger for the interior lights. Get a 12 volt test light. Check for power on the red wire. That’s your headlight feed, no power, check the fusible links. Orange is taillight feed from the taillight fuse, it should show power. If not, check the tail light fuse...

Oil pressure gauge - pegs right...

Disconnect the sending unit and ground it. The gauge should read zero. If it doesn’t, or still pegged out, check the wire for a short to ground. If the gauge does go to zero, before digging too deep I’d replace the sending unit.

90 Suburban TH400 Trans Cooling Line Replacement

Inline Tube more than likely has reproduction steel lines. Any shop that makes hydraulic hose could make lines. You could also use AN fittings. Keep in mind, the fittings that thread into the transmission case are NOT tapered pipe thread. The factory used fittings with copper washers. While...

    Trans Fluid and Filter Replacement

I change the fluid and adjust the bands on my Ram every 25k or so. I do tow frequently. Some people say that’s overkill. The fact that I’m almost to 300k on a transmission that’s never been out of the truck, and is supposedly a problematic transmission says otherwise. I would say your due for...

Fixing and finding backup light wires 78k10

At the base of the column look for a 2 wire connector body. One wire will be blue (hot with the ignition on, powered by the turn signal fuse) the other will be light green. Turn the key on, use a fused jumper wire to jumper those 2 wires, the backup lights should come on.

What parts do you carry with you?

Basic hand tools. These trucks are so common and simple, any decent parts store more than likely will have anything to fix minor roadside problems. My Olds on the other hand, for big road trips I pack a spare water/fuel pump. I try to carry common wear items that part stores don’t stock...

My dash lights and gauges don’t work.

LED bulbs are polarity sensitive. If everything worked before you changed bulbs, pull the cluster and try flipping the dockets 180 degrees. Or just go back to regular bulbs

    hypothetical, mpg

Personally, I would tune what you have. Dial in the cruise AFR, play anround with ignition timing, this is where an AFR and vacuum gauge would be helpful. Any modifications you make are going to cost many times the amount of money you save in fuel. A 700 transmission would definitely help...

    Dual electrical question

That’s the VSS. One cable goes to the back of the speedometer, the other wires go to the cruise harness.

    TV cable geometry

In the back of the old TransStar catalogs I recall seeing a small spring and spacer. The spacer clipped over the cable, the spring spirals over the cable. The theory is the spring is heavy enough to remain stretched out during normal driving. At WOT, the spring collapses and coil binds to...

Need help finding short for electrical ground

What are the odds the taillights come on when this happens? Lay a brick on the brake pedal, walk around the truck. Check all the bulbs. Make sure you don’t have a single filament bulb where a dual filament dual filament should be. This is actually a fairly common problem. At the rear of the...

Brake lights and turn signals not working

Before doing anything, push and pull the hazard switch a few times. See if that fixes anything. Check for power on the purple wire of the turn signal switch. No power? Check the fuse, try a different flasher. Check for power on the orange wire of the brake switch. If you have power, push...

    Q-jet to Edlebrock vacuum questions

https://www.hotrod.com/how-to/hot-rod-rescue-lockup-700-r4-torque-converter-without-computer The time delay relay I bought from Amazon. It was around 15 bucks. The problem with using a standard relay is the converter locks immediately after the 3-4 gear change. That tends to really drag the...

    Q-jet to Edlebrock vacuum questions

More than likely, you’re going to have to spend some time playing around with the advance curve of the distributor. Now that all the factory emissions crap is gone, the factory tune up specs are useless. The total timing will be way too high, and the advance will max out at way too high of rpm...

    Help identifying – dash wiring

The tan and gray wires are left front speaker. The pink/black tracer and black/white tracer goes to the green box near the speedometer head. The green box is the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor buffer) basically a speed signal input the the cruise control and the ecm for the lockup torque converter...

Issues with HEI swap from original points ignition.

If the engine cranks normally with the ignition unplugged, I’d suspect the ignition timing is screwed up.

Why do Americans hate drain plugs? Drive line oil change queries.

The early TH350 transmissions had a pan with a drain plug. It disappeared in the early 70s. So at one time regular maintenance and ease of service was a priority. Unfortunately, profit soon became a much bigger priority.

    Terminals for gauge cluster

I found that exact part with Ron Francis electrical. If my search comes up empty, I’ll have to go with them. I don’t need the connector body, but at this point I can’t be too picky.

    Detent Cable adjustment?

Nonsense!! On some cables, you do push the button down. Just not this one! Good luck.
