    hypothetical, mpg

Closest I ever got in my truck as 24mpg. That was a whole tank in semi-heavy traffic running a steady ~65-70 for a few hours straight, normally we run 80+. That was with the 5.3/T56/3.90/20s combo

    Aftermarket Carb

I've used alot of Evil Energy fuel system and exhaust parts, I had no idea they had carbs too. Typical Chinese stuff though, straight up Holley rip off

    hypothetical, mpg

So there's 3 things in your statement that will work against your fuel mileage goals, the 14-bolt, the 3OTT and the transport wheels. The 14-bolt is heavy, a 10-bolt or 12-bolt would be a better choice there. The 700R4 is going to get better mileage than a 3OTT simply because it has a deeper...

Pulling the pan usually drops ~2-3qts out

To seal or not to seal rockers

Agreed. Vehicles are only designed to last long enough to get them out of warranty. If I were doing rockers, I'd cut holes in the inner at least quarter sized so I could wash them out/get a tool in there to pull any debris out. As said above, then fluid film every so often to keep rust at bay

What new tools have you got lately?

As soon as I'm done bleeding money on my C10, I'll be ordering a Temu dash pad for my '05. A few friends have ordered them and say the fit and color is perfect. Lots of good stuff on Temu apparently

Lower fire wall panels. Anyone make em?

Nobody that I've run across makes anything like that. It'd be fairly simple to make though, you could pick up the stock inner fender bolt locations on the firewall to hold it in.

    4l60E flush

I'm a firm believer in NEVER flushing an auto trans unless you've had it since new and been doing it on a regular interval. EVERY. SINGLE. person I know that's had a 4l60 or anything else flushed was doing a rebuild soon after. All I do is drop the pan, change the filter and top it back up, I've...

Thoughts on shocks/suspension and bad roads

A low/small car is never gonna take washboard roads well, just gotta take it slow. A Jeep or something that has lots of soft/longer travel suspension options would be my pick

Jimmy Tailgate Band What's it worth?

I've bought a couple nice ones of those for $50-75. If it's PERFECT, I could see $150-200 but if it's normal driver fair, $50-100. I'm in Ga also btw

    Drum Brake Parts recommendation

I got all my drum brake parts off RockAuto when I did mine, including new drums

    Chuck’s engine build thread!

I know how that goes, driving yourself literally mad trying to wade through all the details and options. For my LS, Johnson and Morel seem to be the go-to brands that have minimal to no complaints/failures. I'm sure the same is true for small block rollers as well

    C30, 85 with a narrow dually

Seen it done many times, pretty cool. Can't remember if the stock tubs will clear, but there's always our 4" wider tubs from AMD you could graft in. A shorty would def ride rough if you kept all the 1-ton suspension, but it wouldn't be bad if you lightened it up or converted to air bags

That's good to know, I didn't know that was a thing

    Chuck’s engine build thread!

Dang, hate to hear that but don't blame you a bit. I'm gun shy even on the LS roller stuff these days.

Definitely weren't orange/red from the factory, orange/red went out sometime in the '70s

What have you done to your square lately??

Got the rear of the DSE 98% of the way installed this weekend. Just gotta get a few washers to finish it off

What parts do you carry with you?

Depends on how far I'm driving it. Within a couple hours of home, usually nothing. Long trips? I take half my toolbox, extra fuel pump, spark plug wires and an alternator.

My '85's 305 was so gunked up and nasty, I couldn't tell ya what color it was

Two questions, one about color and one about options

Someone else will chime in that's more knowledgeable than me but I believe the VC's were either Corporate Blue or maybe they'd switched everything to black by then? Can't remember. The 305/700R4/2.73 and a q-jet is fairly common combo, as is the same thing but with a TH350 (what my truck was).
