I want reasonable milage. A trucks no good if you can't afford to put gas in it. There's no reason that if anybody wants to get better milage out of their rig that we should shut them down. As a matter of fact if more people tried, some of the mistakes people keep making that hurts their...

96 Fuel Pump Strainer Does Not Fit

So you are running a stock cam in a 383? Are you sure?that would be very unusual. Reach out to Harris Tbi tuning. As for bumping fuel pressure it's not adjustable, you will need to modify it to be adjustable,or change the spring in your stock regulator. Harris sells springs and maybe and...

Where's the resistor in the coil pink wire from ignition switch?

The wire itself is a resistance wire, the whole wire is the resistor . If you change the length, you change the resistance. GM hasn't used that since 1974. So if you are working on something 1975 or later there is no resistance in the coil power wire.

96 Fuel Pump Strainer Does Not Fit

Did you have a chip burned since you are running a 383 and I have no idea what cam. TBI is manifold pressure controlled it's very sensitive to camshaft profile. I'd also try bumping the fuel pressure if it's not getting enough fuel. That will increase the amount of fuel delivered with the same...

    MAP sensor vacuum hose

Use a hard plastic 90 and a 1 inch piece of vacuum line to connect at map. Other end of 90* use vacuum line to TBI you can use a second hard 90 at Tbi if necessary. Can you just put a loop in a piece of regular vacuum tubing, instead of trying to make a straight shot.

Question about checking current flow to the choke.

Yea it's easy. Buy a 2 prong normally open,I repeat normally open Oil Pressure switch. Screw it into the Block where ever you find most convenient,by the distributor or above the oil filter. Use a fuse to connect 1 prong to battery 12v+ connect the other prong to choke element,it is really that...

Question about checking current flow to the choke.

The choke element has nothing to do with it for 10 or 15 minutes. Check the choke pull offs( vacuum pods that open the choke). Some have 1 some have 2 again I'm assuming you have a quadrajet.. They should open the choke plate, with vacuum about 3/16ths as soon as the engine starts..

    Spark knocking, pinging, detonating

A bypass allows water to flow through the heads and intake while the thermostat is closed. Most, not all, SBC have a passage between the water pump and block to allow water to keep moving, even with the thermostat closed. Vortec blocks do not have the bypass. Some water pumps don't have the...

    Spark knocking, pinging, detonating

Are you running 3/4 reach plugs? What heads are you running? If they are vortecs what heat range are you running, and do you have a bypass on the manifold or have you drilled a thermostat for bypass. Temps at the head will be too high without a bypass.
