Want to swap my 6.2 hard to start

Didn’t read all the replies so may be resaying something others have said, but here goes….. You speak of changing the motor out, yet, have not mentioned any form of troubleshooting the long crank times. Here is where I’d start. 1st, is your glow plug system working? The 82-84 glow plug...

Question about center grilles - 81-87

Have not been able to lay my hands on a true 81-82 piece. Hadn’t forgotten about it. Do know where a wrecked 81 is that I’m trying to catch up with the owner.

Big oil filter downsides? such as WIX 51794 or ACDelco PF932

So who do you recommend for replacement lifters? I’ve seen GM replacements that didn’t last 10k, BTR and Michigan Motorsports that lasted about the same, and when pulled apart, looked to be exactly the same as some cheap chinese ebay specials a buddy has. The replacements we have dealt with...

Welcome from SW Mississippi Are you in Nashville itself, or the surrounding area? I get up to the Columbia area and spend a good bit of time in the basin (and on the highland rim)

Big oil filter downsides? such as WIX 51794 or ACDelco PF932

I fully agree with her last sentence. If you are running a good oil and filter, and decent oil change intervals, you shouldn’t have a bunch of crud in your engine to plug a filter. I have a 2011 5.3 that I started changing oil in in 2012, when the “free for the first year” dealer oil changes...

Question about center grilles - 81-87

Give me a day or two as I haven’t been able to lay my hands on my 81-82 piece, but am still digging thru parts. If not, I know where one is I can get a hold of. Have found several styles of t case cross members, so may photograph them denoting styles for reference purposes too

Question about center grilles - 81-87

It will physically fit, no problem, but 2 trim screws should not line up, unless the splash apron has been changed already, in which case, 2 screws should not have lined up on the 81-82 grille. Believe I have at least one of each style, and can take photos for reference, if anyone is interested.

Question about center grilles - 81-87

The splash apron /bumper valance (metal piece between the bumper and grille) is different between the 81-82 and the 83-88. (It is also different for 89-91)

    4L80E Information Thread

Something Ranchwelder brought up that I would like to follow up on is fluid capacity. GM seems to use the bare minimum of fluid in 4L80s, so for years, several of us have been remarking our dipsticks to where “Full” is 1/4” ABOVE the trans pan mating surface of the transmission case. We have...

Just need crank sensor that matches the tune and TPS. My ecm is an 0411 from an 01 express van with 5.7/4L80. The 5.7 is 4x crank sensor. Added a late 6.5 lower timing gear (has 4x sensor) to my 6.2 diesel, and TPS from a 6.5 to side of the injection pump. Turned off all engine functions in the...

    Comp Cams Break in

Comp Cam burned a bunch of us (close to a dozen) in the late 80s and early 90s with bad (soft) BBC cam cores. They always claimed improper break in, yet, we all went to different manufacturers, and never had another issue. The issue with Comp led me to meeting Harold Brookshire. Harold was a...

What have you done to your square lately??

Need to add a spacer under the rubber bumper of the upper control arm to limit downward movement. I dropped my 81 in 1984 using custom 4” springs as I don’t remember spindles being available. Added a 3” aluminum spacer under the upper control arm bumper, figuring, anything I removed from the...

Options for knocking front driveshaft on lifted K10?

I’d start with removing the dropped crossmember and go back to stock driveline angle, then go from there. Think of it like this. If your front t case flange is true vertical (12 o’clock to 6 o’clock) with original crossmember, just adding a drop trans/t case crossmember will add to your angle...

    305 serious sludge

I think it Quaker State that used to have the sludge problem, not Pennsoil. Quaker State’s refining process used to not get all the parafin out of the oil, which led to sludge buildup in engines.

Search for a spare 15-inch wheel or two

I believe that is a 15x8 due to the trim ring shown. The 15x7 and 15x6 wheels use a different trim ring that doesn’t have as much depth. It has a flat surface on the rim edge, compared to the flowing edge of the one shown. Having said that, if I remember right, a 15x8 trim ring will NOT latch...

Our small church bought a 92 G3500 from another small church (original owners) a few years ago. Had 40,3?? Miles on it. I think it now has just under 41k miles on it. Selling it has been discussed, and wife and I are considering buying it to do the same (converting it to camper) so I’m...

Here’s the best heavy rust dissolver for smaller parts like nuts and bolts that you’re probably not aware of and is probably in your kitchen.

I like electrolysis for a lot of stuff. This is an old plane of my grandfather’s that I found a few years back in a bucket in back of the barn. Completely frozen / rusted up. I could have just glass bead blasted it, and been done, but stuck it in my small electrolysis tank (5gal bucket...

Why is my bell housing knocking!

Hydraulic bell housing and 3 finger clutch? If so, check to see if the fingers are hitting the throw out bearing lever. I did that once, and it sounded just like in the video. Had to go to a diaphragm clutch for a later model in my case, as I was installing a hydraulic bell housing in my 82 that...

Steering Wheel Too Close '84 C-10

Will the 84-up humps be made with the t-case shifter holes and mounting rings for the 208? I looked at them last year when they came out but that is what is holding me off buying one. If I have to put my t case mount in one, and then install it in my cab, it may not be worth the effort.
