    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Anyone know how much it costs to have a mechanic do this job? Goofle says $50 - $300. I'd like to do everything myself, but I don't have a torque wrench to set the bearing pre-load. And I don't trust the rentals when it comes to a torque wrench. It's probably been dropped 100 times. So if the...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Even Timken? Everyone seems to like them, and iirc they're USA made. Might be wrong about that though. I jacked the truck up in the front, and had both wheels off the ground. Then I had the wife slowly turn the steering wheel, while I watched everything from underneath. Nothing appeared to...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Are the front wheel bearings adjustable when they get old? Or get some miles on them. After a thorough inspection of the front suspension and steering on my truck, it seems that it needs a steering box and wheel bearings on both sides. All of the ball and socket joints are tight. The pitman arm...

I guess I give up on the windows

Was it a pain to run it through the door boot? Maybe it would work to just run the new ground to the door itself. I should have thought of that when I had the door panel off

I guess I give up on the windows

Wish I knew about that before I did mine! I just bought relays and did it all myself. Took awhile to plan everything out. My doors are a little faster than they were. They went from painfully slow to just slow. I'll keep the nu relics in mind if I start driving the truck more.

I guess I give up on the windows

Yeah it's pretty disappointing when you spend time and money to fix it, and barely see any improvement. The problem seems to be that there's more than one problem. I replaced the old motor because it was dead, but the new one seems like a slug. I guess it's not, and it's just having to deal...

I guess I give up on the windows

My driver works ok (not great) and the passenger side needs help from a hand most of the time. Looks like more electrical diagnosis is needed. This truck will force me to get really good at that. I think there's a pretty bad voltage drop when you press the switch. Some other posts have said it...

    Headliner questions

If you guys live in an area where it gets hot, I think you have to use the "high temp" stuff. Or the sun will bake the roof and eventually cause your glue to let go.

I guess I give up on the windows

Yeah I'm thinking brute force is the way to go. If "adjusting" the tracks and regulators didn't help. If I knew how to do such an adjustment. Brute force with a better motor sounds good though. I might do it someday, but not anytime soon cause the ones they sell are expensive. I'm sure you could...

Interior Lights, Head lights, Radio are not working

Hmm... Maybe not this forum. Of course they may have a thing about any political talk. Most forums do. Nothing good ever comes of it lol

I guess I give up on the windows

I've done everything you can do to fix the slow power windows in my 87. All of the door rubber has been replaced. All the rubber has been lubed with Syl Glide. There's new AcDeclo brand motors and regulators. New switches. The relay mod is installed so they draw directly from the battery. The...

Forever Sharp steering wheel installed. Beautiful

Looks real nice! Is the grip a form of rubber or is it hard plastic? I could do this one, but with my luck the metal wouldn't be that cool color. It would just be plain old silvery aluminum...

What's the good AC compressor these days?

Decided to have a shop do it in May. After I added up all the costs, they aren't making that much. It looked like a $400 price difference. But you get a warranty, instead of me being the warranty. And getting to diagnose and look for leaks, refill it, etc. Still, I'd do it myself if I had an...

    Busted ball joint boot

One day around 3 years ago a buddy helped me redo everything. And I do mean everything, even all 4 control arms. The new front end has somewhere around 8k miles on it. It would be a disappointment if it's starting to go bad already. After this ball joint boot though, I won't be buying moog...

Headlights flicker and radio cuts out when driving over a bump

During all my hunting for electrical gremlins, I saw that the ground strap on the back of the passenger side head was broken. Ordered a new one and installed it yesterday. Now the headlights are working right and the radio no longer cuts out over bumps. Any other ground straps? Anyone got the...

    Busted ball joint boot

Well I jacked up the truck and rocked the wheel from left to right. Lots of play and a nice clunking sound. So I rocked it from top to bottom. Same result. Does this mean that I probably have a dead ball joint, and a dead tie rod end?

    Busted ball joint boot

About to do this job, so I wanted to ask - Does it matter the brand of the ball joint? Or is that just how the boots are made on these old trucks? To come off easily. I've been watching youtube vids and it looks like some ball joints are difficult to separate from their boots. And it makes...

Headlights flicker and radio cuts out when driving over a bump

Anyone know the reason why those starter solenoid wires (there's 2 iirc) can affect the headlights? The would seem to be unrelated.

Headlights flicker and radio cuts out when driving over a bump

Anyone know why the starter wires are 12 gauge, but the fusible link wires are 14 gauge? I'm an electrical newb, but it seems like the fusible link would need also need to be 12 gauge. But all my searching reveals they're 14 gauge. And they just connect the smaller diameter fusible link to the...

Headlights flicker and radio cuts out when driving over a bump

Yeah that's gonna be fun. Looks like it's time to drop the starter again! lol Does anyone know what gauge the starter wires are? To me it looks like it might be 10 guage... maybe 14 gauge I'm not sure.

Headlights flicker and radio cuts out when driving over a bump

Well I checked the passenger side head ground as scrap-metal suggested, and it's broke off. So I've definitely got to replace that.

Headlights flicker and radio cuts out when driving over a bump

If only I knew where they all were. A huge help to this site, would be if someone had an info graphic that showed where all the ground wires are on these trucks. How many are there in total... who knows? Maybe there's 10 or 15. But I'll look for one going from the passenger side head to the...

Headlights flicker and radio cuts out when driving over a bump

Man, it's like you fix one electrical gremlin, and a new one rears it's ugly head. I recently replaced my starter and fixed some ground wire issues, and now the starter finally works good. But when when the road gets a little bumpy, my radio restarts (modern radio) and my headlights flicker. I...
