    82 GMC sierra C15 Inline 6 to 454 swap?

At this point I kinda want an I6 truck. That’s where the bragging rights are. Everybody has a 400 hp v8.

    Long term storage first startup

You might consider watching a couple of Vice Grip Garage's revivals of squarebodies on youtube. He's native to small block chevys and talks through a lot of the stuff you have to check on a vehicle that has been stored... I don't know how many SBCs he has done but you cuold probably find 2-3...

Surface rust. What are the best practices?

I'll just take the bed as example: I'd wire wheel it quickly, then rub the whole thing down in ospho. You could then just re-ospho, rinse, dry, and paint whenever you are ready. For me the wire wheel is more about removing any major scale or mess, the ospho takes care of the rust. I bet I...

    Another 700R4 question

I wonder if this is related to gearing and your vacuum kick down switch. I have a 700R4 in my 85. It’s behind a 305 that is reliable but not strong, and it has the added indignity of 2.73 gears in the rear end. If I’m in OD on the gear selector, and get into a sustained uphill slope and I’m...

    TX87R10 rendered this thread useless

I finally got to take a look. Good example of only modifying a truck if YOU want it modified. The market would have loved that 2-tone survivor much more than its splash-sprayed alter ego. There are a lot of small items that generally add up to a whole lot of value, beyond body work. -...

    Oil consumption?

I have an H motor in my 85. It has probably 90k on it and zero leaks, and I changed the valve seals a couple years ago. It probably burns a quart every 3k. I consider this good performance. :-)

    Wanted Cruise Control Rod/Link

I think it would bind up. The bellows on the cruise servo does flex but not a lot.

    Wanted Cruise Control Rod/Link

I did this exact thing on my 85. Used some metal wire from the servo plate to the hook. Worked fine.

    Wanted Cruise Control Rod/Link

Grooved link just allows it to slide during normal throttle operation so nothing binds. When cruise is on it just pulls as another poster said. Lockdown cable (in my case the 700r4 tv cable) is not involved in this link. It connects to the main throttle arm.

    When to replace kingpins?

I faced the same question only a month or so ago. I decided to leave them. I mainly looked at the 600 ft lb torque standard and the amount of damage (one of mine was slightly grooved) and figured (also based on some advice here) as a part time use truck it would be ok w new bushings. Mine:

Oh boy. A welding project. Sounds like fun!

    Headache rack mounts

Het everybody. I picked up a headache rack and think it belongs on my k35 project. Can someone tell me what kind of mounts I need to find to mount this style of tubular rack on my bed:

    Quadrajet secondary lockout lever

I have the book. I will have to look at it for this specific function. The pull off is working and adjusted. I took the arm off for now. Also, I have to admit the rebuild wasn’t nearly as challenging as it first looked. It’s one of those things that once you have a few reps I could see...

    Quadrajet secondary lockout lever

I took a look at my 85 with the 305 and it doesn’t even have the lockout lever so I couldn’t compare function. I’ll keep looking.

    Quadrajet secondary lockout lever

I'll take any advice, but I did flip the arm thinking maybe I had forgotten the orientation, and it doesn't reach the lockout pin IIRC. As of now I just removed it but would like to get it back if I can figure out function.

    Quadrajet secondary lockout lever

hoping this is a known issue. I rebuilt the quadrajet in my dually project. I could not get the secondary lockout to actuate properly. The top of the lever never contacts the choke assembly. I think it’s the fast idle cam that is supposed to trip the lockout lever so the secondaries can open...

Help Installing Pre Bent Brake Lines 1980 GMC

Yeah. That’s the way I did it. You have to flex the line quite a bit to make the corner.

    Factory Engine Color???

I pulled and painted the motor in my '85 orange and love it. I pulled and painted the motor in my '80 black because the truck is orange. I guess it depends on the situation. Go figure.

Where does this piece bolt up to?

The big hole goes on a bell housing bolt behind the passenger side of the engine. The little hole goes on a starter stud on the aft end of the starter.

Yes. Did that. I went real careful after realizing how stupid I was at the start.

K30 DRW Brake Drum Removal HELP!!!

It was hard enough to post this thread knowing I was missing something. Now I can laugh at it. Like your friend, I had hammered on some stuck drums before... so I guess I just figured enough hammering would free these up. Now, of course, I'm an internet expert on full floaters.

    84 GMC 6500 "Hydroboost" Leaking

I just took a normal hydroboost apart and replaced a master cylinder at the same time. I’m thinking you HAVE to be referring to bubbles in your power steering fluid (not master cylinder). There is zero way for bubbles to be caused in the brake master cylinder from turning the steering wheel...

    Hydro boost leaking help!

I rebuilt the hydro boost after a little more sleuthing. The fluid was definitely coming from the hydro boost piston. Wasn’t a difficult job, though I couldn’t replace the input piston seals because the input rod was permanently attached. Got it back together and leak tested on the truck...
