I rebuilt the carb. The float was set to spec. But, the Varajet II is a POS, and I will get rid of it as soon as I can. But, Ralph has the integral head.. Exhaust, intake and the entire head are 1 pc! I have another head of the older style, and am looking for new intake and exhaust manifolds...- justhorns

Still has the evap and its working. They no longer look under the hood or truck (for the cat) They just sniff the exhaust and you either pass or fail.- justhorns

OK, thanks to all. I set the timing to factory stock settings, and it came in immediately. I have passed emissions and am re-registered for another 5 years! See photo below. Big changes with little effort.- justhorns

I have been richening it up, and it seems I went too far. The adjustment screw is really hard to get at, and I had to make a special tool to get at it. When the engine is warm, I can't get anywhere near it as it sits near the exhaust manifold. Based on results of tests 7 &8,I have taken fuel out...- justhorns

It has a catalytic converter under there. I think its the original. It does not have an air pump, but uses pulse valves to draw air in from the crankcase. I will try didling with timing, its easy to do. Then I'll run it through again. I'm afraid of replacing the cat as it doesn't get enough air...- justhorns

My great chevy C-10 "ralph" with a 250-6 has just flunked Colorado emissions 8 times. Too High on hydrocarbons (although I have gotten very close to the spec. The Spec is 220 PPM and I have gotten it to 226 on the 6th of 8 tests. They still flunked me after being up at 900! Stinkers. The...- justhorns

What have you done to your square lately??
Oil and Filter. Penn grade 10/30 and B&G MOA (motor oil additive). Valve tap finally gone. At 107,000 and 44 years old the motors doing fine. Gotta smog it next month (reinstall some stuff). -

Th350 not spinning the speedo cable
Both ends of the cable can be -short- of what they are supposed to drive. Either the tranny isnt driving it, or the cable isn't driving the speedo. I had issues at the speedo end as the new junk cable was too short. Remember the inner cable can be too short although the outer may be correct... -
What new tools have you got lately?
I tune alot of customer carburetors, and I just needed a simple rich/lean AFM type meter, but, customers usually don't want me inserting a bung in their exhaust (or its falling apart). Two miles south of Bandimere is the hill. Ken Caryl Ave exit. Go north and the hill drops quickly. Then it goes up. My Daughter went to Chatfeild HS. Also, I should note. The altitude here is 5800', so I was able to go that fast with little O2. This truck does fine up to 10,000 feet that I know of. -

I just pegged my Speedometer at 85! Downhill, but, hey.. 250-6 3 speed on floor. 44 years old, never been apart. -

If its not too late, add (don't disconnect anything) add Heavy duty jumper cables in parralel to positive and ground wire. Try to start it. This will tell you easily if your existing cables are bad. battery junction Block issue ( see photos)
Mine had trailer brake wiring (done by a 8 year old) attached to it. I disconnected it. Its sitting there waiting for something to use it for. I wondered what it was for also. Maybe someday I'll find a need for it.- justhorns

So, you need to trace wires, or have a factory shop manual to identify these (or somebody here will help)But #3 is funny. AC makes the part. As in AC Delco that they have become. The green box is a idiot buzzer. Just throw it somewhere. Out the window, or in the bed if you are unsure. Grey wires...- justhorns
