6.2 diesel or 292 inline 6?

I have an 83 C10 with the 6.2 in it, had a leaking injector and it caught on fire. It melted a good amount of the wiring among other things. I have a 292 crate motor with all the parts to build it up. My question is should I fix what was in there and stick to the 6.2 or just pull it and go with the 292? I feel like the wiring would be easier with the 292 but the exhaust would be different and not sure about my gas tank? Any opinions would be appreciated thx.

I’m not a 6.2 fan so my knee jerk answer is 292. That said, one of the motor mounts is offset so you’ll have to get the correct crossmember that will reposition that one bracket.

Depends on what you want. Once fixed up, I bet a c10 with a 6.2 would be about as much of a fuel miser as a square could be. I’d like one for DD duty.

Not to mention, if you get pulled over and the officer notices you have a gas engine in a vehicle reg’d as a diesel, that’s a problem.

Hmm.. I tend to get pulled over a lot for some reason. The 6.2 did get good mileage. I could probably sell that 292 and use the money to fix and upgrade the 6.2. It just happened last week and I miss my truck already

Wiring on a 6.2 is pretty simple - Hot to the fuel solenoid, temp & oil pressure sensors, and glow plugs. Can take pics of mine if it would be helpful.
