I was having trouble with mine. I just about bought a new starter. By accident I found that I had to run a ground cable to the starter mounting bolt. Problem solved. I hope this helps.

I made my own kit 2 relay’s. One for high beams one for low beams. Lights were noticeably brighter. Factory light switch doesn’t allow full voltage for headlights because of restricted current flow caused by substandard wire.
I had this problem show up this weekend on my 82 GMC. I checked the headlight sockets . I found a fair amount of corrosion on both sockets and headlight prongs. I cleaned all four light prongs and sockets made sure they were snugly making contact and fixed the problem.
I put in relays one for each bulb with new 14 ga wire supplied from the battery of course fused so Full voltage is supplied. What a difference lights are bright no more flashlight going down the road.
