1978 Suburban just came in to a local yard

@HotWheelsBurban I'm up Cypress way but have family on the east side by I-10 and the beltway so I can hit up the Wallisville location next time I'm around there.

1978 Suburban just came in to a local yard

@HotWheelsBurban Appreciate the heads up as I'm in the Houston area myself. If you do make it out, mind checking to see if any of the square Burbs have the rear AC system in place? Looking to add that to my 76 Burb.

    Gas spilling when filling up

Finally got to a happy ending. I loosened the nuts on the bolts holding up the tank a bit to lower the tank by 1/4 or 1/2 an inch in case the angle was too shallow for the filler hose. However, I think the real issue was that the fuel filler vent hose was kinked. I left the hose pretty long...

    Cruise control inop

I have more or less a functional cruise control but here's my takeaways for anyone dealing with this as well: - I was able to use a volt/ohm meter, vacuum pump, and the factory service manual to test the different key components (transducer, servo, brake switches, vacuum lines, and cruise...

    AC noise under throttle

In case anyone faces this issue in the future: for me it turned out to be the AC compressor. It cycles on and off every 15 seconds and when doing so it generates that sound that sounds like air being released. The clutch also aggressively, it seems to me, catches the belt and that leads to...

    Help diagnosing engine noise

Today I pulled out my trusty smoke machine and connected it to the vacuum booster vacuum line. No leaks from the carb or intake but there was a real nice big smoke trail coming out one side of the manifold vacuum tee. Earlier in the week I had a shop install headers and they must have...

    Gas spilling when filling up

Here's where we're at: - Dropped the tank. I thought it only had a quarter tank left but it actually had half so it was quite heavy. - Filler and filler vent hoses were toast (old, cracked, hard) but the sender and other lines seemed OK. I'm thinking the original issue was that the filler vent...

    Help diagnosing engine noise

@PrairieDrifter I snugged up the brake booster connection at the back of the carb when I put the QJ back on the intake but I'll feel around it just in case there's something off there. However, I didn't check the other end of the booster line so that's a good call. There's a vacuum tee off of...

    Help diagnosing engine noise

Video of engine bay Details: Stock QJ, stock intake, stock cam, headers, no EVAP equipment (factory), 18-18.5 inches of mercury vacuum at idle I can’t figure out if the droning/burbling/hissing noise I’m hearing is normal or not. I thought it was a vacuum leak but all the lines in the bay have...

    Gas spilling when filling up

The hoses do look pretty old and tired, so these are both potentially in play here. I've ordered a 40g tank + straps + hoses/clamps for a full refresh from LMC & Rockauto. Once they arrive, I'll take the tank down and get a closer look at how the lines are currently configured and the shape of...

    Gas spilling when filling up

There's no evidence of any EVAP equipment ever being on the rig so I think your comment about open venting makes sense. The spill happens somewhere close to the middle of the truck, near the tank itself (so not by the filler neck). I think that reduces the likelihood that it's the hard lines...

    Gas spilling when filling up

It's a Suburban so no saddle tank and no spare tire delete, it's a rear tank mount.

    Gas spilling when filling up

Fuel pump has 3 lines, one from the tank, one to the carb, and a return line. Also, I just replaced the gas cap due to getting distracted while filling up and forgetting to put the cap back on so it's probably not that. I have no issues with either fuel leaking when the car sits in the garage...

    Gas spilling when filling up

When I fill up my stock 25 gallon tank at the pump, the pump stops/clicks as normal when full and shortly thereafter I can hear gas spilling. Looking underneath, I can't quite pin point where the spill comes from other than the general tank area. Other than that, vehicle works great -- fuel...

    Missing air vent component?

Appreciate the responses everyone. @legopnuematic I took a look at my service manual and the "Plenum valve" actually refers to the valve/flapper on the cowl that controls the outside air flow. The part I'm missing is apparently the "Air inlet valve" which should open up when AC is on Max mode so...
