https://spicerparts.com/calculators/transmission-ratio-rpm-calculator 2000 RPM is 71 MPH. Your exact tire will affect it of course, and that assumes you have the lockup working, as well. Going to a 33" gets 75 mph @2000 rpm, for example.- Hunter79764

I think I used Michigan Motorsports lifter and tray setup, but it was also right at the front end of Covid when everything was crazy, so it might just be a bad batch (assuming that's my issue). On the newer stuff, you're right, they are much smarter and you gain a lot of flexibility. The earlier returnless was more what I was referring to, where the fuel pump module had a regulator built in, and the "return line" was about 6" and part of the assembly, never leaving the tank. 58 psi...- Hunter79764

It is sort of a trade off cycle. Pump mounted external makes it easier to mess with wiring and/or change out, but it also makes it more likely to have to mess with wiring or change it. Yes, run the factory regulator on the rail. Most people think that the "returnless" style is better because it is newer, it isn't. 1987 Suburban v1500 - what separates the v1500 and v2500?
I've got an 87 v2500 myself. As noted above, all of that is true. If you are going to tow frequently and/or in rough conditions, some of the 3/4T parts would certainly help.
