Scores from DIY Parts Yards, Pull A Part, U Pull It etc

I was at the yards looking for parts on my 2004 yukon and saw what looked to be a ~90 model Suburban. Entire front end, dash, front seats, and doors were gone, but the rest was there, nice and tidy. I grabbed the 3rd row seat and belts for $100. Grey cloth was great condition, just doesn't match...

Advice and Parts recommendations for some 6.2 cam/valvetrain work?

That's interesting on the stock springs. I might look closely at a new set of stock springs, and hang on to the stiff duals for another build in something less daily-driver... Especially if I have to replace the cam and go with a milder one.

Advice and Parts recommendations for some 6.2 cam/valvetrain work?

Not the update you're looking for, but it's the update I've got. Dad came in Friday afternoon (that's him standing in front of the finished truck), it rained all day Saturday, but Sunday evening by 11 it was 90% done and still ugly, but much less ugly. Still need to splice a trans cooler line...

    LS 5.3 High Idle

As for live data, the Torque app and a bluetooth adapter is a good option if you don't have HPTuners or similar. I don't have any other input on the issue, sounds like good advice so far. As for cleaning injectors, a small bucket of gasoline and seafoam to soak them in has helped me out, I had...

    31x10.5 with 3:73 gears.700R4 trans. What RPM will I have at 70MPH?

https://spicerparts.com/calculators/transmission-ratio-rpm-calculator 2000 RPM is 71 MPH. Your exact tire will affect it of course, and that assumes you have the lockup working, as well. Going to a 33" gets 75 mph @2000 rpm, for example.

Advice and Parts recommendations for some 6.2 cam/valvetrain work?

I think I used Michigan Motorsports lifter and tray setup, but it was also right at the front end of Covid when everything was crazy, so it might just be a bad batch (assuming that's my issue). Pretty sure I used GM head gaskets, no reason for me to switch then. I looked it up, it was a 220/232...

    LS swap fuel system

On the newer stuff, you're right, they are much smarter and you gain a lot of flexibility. The earlier returnless was more what I was referring to, where the fuel pump module had a regulator built in, and the "return line" was about 6" and part of the assembly, never leaving the tank. 58 psi...

    LS swap fuel system

It is sort of a trade off cycle. Pump mounted external makes it easier to mess with wiring and/or change out, but it also makes it more likely to have to mess with wiring or change it. Internal pump is much happier, and should get you 100k miles pretty easy, and for most folks doing a swap...

Advice and Parts recommendations for some 6.2 cam/valvetrain work?

This isn't in a square, but my wife's daily, 2013 Yukon Denali XL with the 6.2 and a Texas Speed VVT Stage 2 cam (installed with a DOD delete ~4 years ago) is giving me some problems. The long Version: A year ago, I got a P219B code (A/F imbalance, Bank 2) and valvetrain noise. Pulled the valve...

    LS swap fuel system

Yes, run the factory regulator on the rail. Most people think that the "returnless" style is better because it is newer, it isn't. It just saved GM some money by putting the regulator in the tank on all of the trucks, which is good enough to get them through the warranty period. The regulator...

83 K5 Blazer LS swap issue

I'd check your grounds for the ECM, there's a few of them, and with 3 sorta unrelated codes, that's where I'd start.

8.1 Vortec VS 383 Stroker VS 6.0 Iron LS

I stand corrected on the efficiency, although we aren't in any disagreement about the whole idea. A carb has a VERY narrow tuning window of being optimized, so narrow that it doesn't exist in the real world. Everything else is a compromise and a high tech bandaid (power valves, idle circuits...

8.1 Vortec VS 383 Stroker VS 6.0 Iron LS

If you want MPG and reliability with EFI, I still think the factory stuff is going to be better than any aftermarket, so long as you have a decent tune done (which is needed either way). There has been testing done before, I think the final conclusion is that a carb, when properly tuned for a...

    Electric Fan Temps

This is a great control strategy that works very well. Here in Texas, high speed kicks on more often, but you hear the air more than feel the fans kicking into high. Running both fans in series absolutely keeps the inrush current down, eliminating that "pull down" effect when fans kick on, and...

    Craziest antitheft idea yet.

Yep, he could easily palm a basketball and carry oilfield drill bits by hand that most needed a forklift to move, and introduced himself to my dad (coming to get mom for their first date) by splitting the back seams on a pair of gloves when he made a fist before shaking his hand. Dad found out...

    Craziest antitheft idea yet.

Similar "Not sure I should admire this, but it was admirable in a way"... My grandfather was a big guy, 6'7", over 350lb (never knew how much over, but the scale at the doctor only went to 350) and was an oilfield roughneck. One his guys quit mid-shift, left the crew in the field with no car, no...

    1987 Suburban v1500 - what separates the v1500 and v2500?

I've got an 87 v2500 myself. As noted above, all of that is true. If you are going to tow frequently and/or in rough conditions, some of the 3/4T parts would certainly help. That said, 5000 lbs isn't terrible if you keep it all sane. A trans cooler on a 700R4 is ALWAYS a good idea, especially on...

    Where to buy LS motor?

Hey, budgets can happen, you just have to be realistic, make a plan, and stick with it. Just saying "I've got $X I can spend" isn't a budget. And I've seen budget swaps for $500, $5000, and $50,000 that were all "in budget" if that's what they planned from the start, I've also seen $5000...

    Where to buy LS motor?

x2 on finding a donor vehicle, maybe a wrecked yukon denali or 2500 truck. Reman motors are going to be pricey, and the whole idea of the LS engine is that you don't have to rebuild a 150k engine, it's good to go as-is if it was taken decent care of.

New Tires, What should I do for wheels?

New Tires, What should I do for wheels?

Basically, yeah, that price is the same as buying new. But buying new gives you nice, clean, white painted wheels. For $125 locally, you can have them that should be nice, clean, white POWDERCOATED wheels. Unless I'm reading the specs wrong on the new ones, I think its likely a good epoxy...

New Tires, What should I do for wheels?

I think the wagon wheels in White would look best on that truck. If you go with white stock, they need the dog dish. If you go black stock, they can be coverless. You could do black on the wagon wheels, but I think white looks better IMO.

    Suburban to Avalanche Conversion

I'm a fan of the modern Avalanche's and have thought about getting one for a daily, but I've got to say that the Squarevalanche doesn't quite do it for me. The K5 Brazer certainly does though... although I've got a 3/4T, would it become a K15 Brazer? K17.5? I don't think I'd lose much capacity.

Rearend gear ratios 1980-1987 most common

My 85 Monte Carlo has 2.14's. Even with short 225/70R14's, the TH350 shifts out of first at about 78 mph or so. I tell people its basically a 4 speed car that's missing 1st gear...
