    1987 Silverado fuel issue

OK. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I have an old ECM which would quit working when it got hot. I already tried putting that one back in and it didn't help, but that was before I found the blown crank fuse. On the other hand, I don't seem to get 12v to the fuel pump connector by the fuel tank...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

The wire I broke off at the tank is a ground to the frame, so I'll still have to go ahead drop the tank to fix that. It's almost out anyway now. I put 12v to the red pigtail out of the fuel pump relay connector. It appears that it should be a direct test for the fuel pump, but I don't get 12v...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Anybody? I have tried looking up what a "crank fuse" does, but most references say that the engine won't crank without it. But mine DID crank without it - just no fuel coming to the TBI. Can't figure how that fuse relates to my fuel supply issue.

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Update: I found the connector near the fuel tank and disconnected that to run a test on the fuel pump. Was feeling around the wires on top of the tank and felt one which seemed to run to an odd location on top of the tank. I pulled on it, lightly, and it popped loose. Dropping the tank to...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Update: Finally got back to this project. I found that the fuse I believe is marked "crank 3A"(hard to read) was blown. After replacing that fuse, I now hear the fuel pump relay activating about one second after turning on the ign key. I still have crank but no run condition. It will run on a...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

I believe you are envisioning a vehicle with a tank in the rear. Mine has dual side tanks. Only the right tank is in use because the left one has a leak. [As an aside, my fuel gauge stopped properly registering when this fuel system problem arose. I get no change when changing to the left tank...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

I won't be able to try any new suggestions right away. Am in the middle of replacing the last bit of older foundation on my house. Still working on breaking out the old concrete. Lots of fun.

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

I was here in town when my rig quit. Maybe 2 miles from my house. It was $85 to bring it home. I have State Farm towing coverage, though.

No. Haven't seen any sign of them.

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Rusty nail... The pump in there now is a Delphi and has less than 500 miles on it. I find it hard to believe that it's gone bad already. When this happened before, and I dropped the tank and replaced the pump, the system started working again, but I have the old pump and it DOES WORK. I have no...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

KnuckleBuster, when you say " disconnect the pump connector and check for power and ground", which connector do you mean? Then on to the pump relay? The one at the tank? I put 12V to the lead at the relay connector which I believe should have started the pump, but I didn't hear anything. Not...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

I have put my fuel supply issue on hold while travelling for work. However, I believe I determined that I'm not getting any power to the fuel pump relay when I turn on the key. Not sure what could explain that, given that no code was shown which would seem to explain it. I also jumped 12v...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Thanks for the suggestion Rusty Nail. I'm not sure that is my problem because I already reached over the tank and wiggled the wires with the key on. If there was an issue there I think the pump would have come on, but it didn't.

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Jumped from A to B and it ran a diagnostic. I don't have a "scan tool" that they refer to in your diagnostic advice. I got a code of "44". According to a chart I found on line, that means: "44- oxygen sensor or circuit - lean exhaust detected". Could that cause the engine to shut down and not...

No. Correction. Blank hole is where "D" would be, so the other existing contact would be "E".
