Replacing the ignition module with a MSD box

A while back when I was having ignition problems someone was kind enough to responded to my post recommending a MSD box they were using and it was in the 300. dollar range. I have gone back and looked for that response but I have not be able to find it. If you have that information would you...

Update on my Ignition Module failure!

MikeB thoughts in post number 25 are correct. I had cleaned all my grounds and replaced old star washers with new ones. I even added a new ground strap to passenger side of the block to the frame. But my truck contined to die after it warmed up. I had missed one ground, sort of! The bolt...

Update on my Ignition Module failure!

It had been mentioned several time in this thread that the supply of old parts is about depleted! Do you remember the Car Allowance Rebate System, or CARS—known nationwide as “Cash for Clunkers”—did to 677,081 vehicles in the summer of 2009? Here is where we lost alot of good parts to the...

Update on my Ignition Module failure!

My 2 year old Accel Ign. mod failed after 2years and 2 months. I bought a new one and after about 3 miles my truck died and I had to have it pulled home. So back down to the O"Reilly Auto Parts I went to have them check the Ign. Mod. It showed to be bad and since I had a one year warranty so...

    Grounding an Ignition control module!

Good observation G, but why does MSD put a ground wire on some of their modules? Could the heat sheilding grease cause intermittent come and go faults ispecaily if the threads on the screws are covered with grease going into the base of the distributor?

    Grounding an Ignition control module!

Thanks Strick It was also mentioned while resurching this topic quality control is not what it used to be. Suppliers receive what is produced off shore and then pass it along to the consumer to deal with!

    Grounding an Ignition control module!

Brain storming to make the ignition modules last longer! While resurching this age old problem to the C-10s I came across this quote from a previous post and it got me to thinking. "Ignition modules do have intermittent come and go faults. just keep in mind that these things need a full 12...

    Bad Gas or what?

Up date: After futher diagnosing I replaced the ignition module. All ignition module that I have replaced all died and would not start. By the time I got the truck home it would restart making it hard to check for spark at the plug. I pulled the module out this morning and Oreilly confirmed...

    Bad Gas or what?

Grit dog, I had thought the same thing about the fuel pump. But I may have also picked up some bad gas so I'm going to replace the pump and the right tank. I am also going to block the left tank and just use the right tank. I am also going have the carb rebuilt so the fuel system is all new...

    Bad Gas or what?

Last week my truck ( 86 GMC 4.8 engine) started haveing a rough idle so I replaced the in line fuel filter and the carburetor filter and added some sea foam thinking it may have some moisture in the tank or bad gaa. The idle smoothed out but now I might be able to go about a mile before it...

Inside the steering column, what is the steering "rack?"

When I try to start my 86 GMC I turn the key till it bottoms out and it may of may not start. If it doesn't start I do it once again. Most of the time it will start the 2nd time. I have replaced the key switch and the ignition switch and have adjusted the ignition switch several times. Is the...
