    vapor lock issues again!!!

SS1019, I'm interested in your post also. I put a fuel guage on my truck after doing most everything you have done. When I installed the guage it was reading at about about 5.5 psi at the guage. Now it is reading zero psi on the guage but my truck is running great.

Edelbrock Carb and original Air cleaner

Thanks for all the suggestions. I returned the Edelbrock Carb and all the attachments that I had bought and went with a reman origianl carb so that I could still attach the cruise, kick down and throttel cabels. I also disabled my emissions so that I now have manifold vacuum to the distrutor...

What Linkage adapters do I need to bolt on a new 1406 Edelbrock Carb. to attach the throttle cable, the kick down cable, and the Crusie control cable for a 1986 Chevy C10? Numbers for the parts would be a big help. Thanks in advance.

Thank you Rustisbest. Were you happy with the way the truck ran with the Edlebrock carb? Was it worth it?

Edelbrock Carb and original Air cleaner

Has anyone put an Edelbrock carb beneath the origiinal 305/350, 4 barrel air cleaner without any modifications? I have an 86 and not having much luck with reman/rebuilt carbs but wanting to keep the original look for a little longer! Thanks in advance. Yes, I have a pressure gage inline and my...

I am pretty sure my Charcoal canister is Clogged!

Thank you Ricko1966 for your response. This morning I will remove the gas cap as you suggested. The reason I suspect the Charcoal canister, about 6 weeks ago my truck stoped running an has not been reliable since. All the fuel system has be changed. New tank, new sendiing unit, new hoses...

I am pretty sure my Charcoal canister is Clogged!

I am thinking I am getting a vapor lock caused by my 40 year old fuel canister being clogged. It is a 1986 GMC/Chevy truck, 305 V8 with a carburetor. On the fuel pump there is an inlet for the line coming from the tank and an outlet for the metal line going to the carb. The third outlet on...

How are you timing your square?

How are you timng yours when needed? All the emissions devices are still on my truck making the timing tab very hard to see. I can't get my timiing light to illuminate the line. I friend would advance his timing until it rattled under aceleration and then would back it off till it stopped...

    Oil sending unit plug

I am fixing to chnange the Oil sending unit on my 86 pickup. Looking at the 2 plugs on the unit they look to be the same size. Since they are the same size I don't have to worry about polarity?

A little fuel line help, please

I installed a new fuel pump in my 86 GMC today. That was fun! I need a coupler/adapter to go between the fuel pump and the metal line. Can some one tell me the thread size of the male end on the line and female threads on the pump. Thanks in advance! The female end on the pump must be...

Question for those that have R&R a Fuel Tank!

Replacing the right fuel tank with the bed on the truck did you lengthen the new rubber fuel lines longer than the original hoses. I'm thinking by adding a longer pieces of hose attaced to the tank first will give me a little more room to attach the hoses to the metal lines coming from swith...

Question about checking current flow to the choke.

Alright, I have good voltage going to the choke but the choke plate is not opening. I can open the plate up and start the truck and it will idle but after a few seconds it will die. IF I try to give it gas it dies. Does the choke filiment need to be replaced? Why does it keep dying?

Question about checking current flow to the choke.

If the switch is bad will it shut the egine off? I can open the choke and get it started but it will not run long enough for me to check the voltage at the choke.

Question about checking current flow to the choke.

Thanks Ricko1966. Since I am going to ground from the connector why not use a test light to just see if there is current? Or do I want to know the amount of voltage flowing? The truck starts and only runs utility it floods because the choke is not opening. I can push on the choke plate and...

Question about checking current flow to the choke.

Because I am electrical challenged I come before you asking this question. Do I put a volt meter between the choke plug and the pin coming out of the choke housing and then start the truck to read the voltage? If no Voltage the I am correct the assume the switch behind the distributor needs to...

Lets talk about a module ignition Replacement

I'm thinking of going with an MSD system. I getting about 6 months out of an ignition module in my 86 GMC with a 305 V8 before it just shuts down and I have to have the truck trailered home. What have you replaced the module ignition system with that you have great results with? Thanks in...

Ignition Timing for First-Generation GM V-8 Engines

I have an 86 GMC pickup with a 305 that is all stock except for replacing the original distributor with an 80s model HEI distributor. I timed with a vacuum gauge this time and it now runs like a 350. I advanced the timing increasing the vacuum in the guage to the highest movement of the needle...

Let's discuss Thermostate modification to aid in cooling!

Has anyone removed the plunger and spring in the thermostate and then replaced the thermostate? I know a very reliable mechanic that said he did this on his daughter car rather than remove the thermostate completely to help bring down engine heat.

Let's talk one man brake bleeder

I found the answer I was looking for. The clear tubing should arc higher than the bleeder valve so the fluid stays in the line near the valve and air can't be sucked back in when the brake pedal is released. Here is a very good video on showing a one man brake bleeding procedure.

Let's talk one man brake bleeder

In searching for 1 man brake bleeding instructions I found the replly below undera thread tiled, How to do a Buba Brake bleeding. Checking to see if my thinking is on the right track! As long as the end of hose from the Wheel Cylinder going into the bottle is submersed in fluid air will not...

Clue me in on R&R Trurn Signal Switch on an 86 GMC, please!

For this I have used a Bobby Pin. You know, those things ladies and some men now wear in their hair to keep it pinned back out of their face!

Clue me in on R&R Trurn Signal Switch on an 86 GMC, please!

Once I get down to the switch part how does the switch arm come out? Is there a screw holding it or does it just pull out. My arm has the windshield washer switch, washer button as well and cruse botton on the end. The videos I have watched skip over this part. Where is a good source to get...

Replacing the ignition module with a MSD box

A while back when I was having ignition problems someone was kind enough to responded to my post recommending a MSD box they were using and it was in the 300. dollar range. I have gone back and looked for that response but I have not be able to find it. If you have that information would you...
