    Automatic slack adjuster lever question

Some older cars have dual manual adjusters. If I remember right, one was VW. Problem with them is age/corrosion and access. Some are an absolute PITA. A 30-minute job can turn into 4. Worst are 2 ton and heavier drum brake juice systems. Have spent days and a huge pile of the customers cash...

    Automatic slack adjuster lever question

Self-adjusters were stock. One incorrect spring, missing parts. Needs self-adjuster and hdwr kits. Be sure and check cables for being stuck. Also lining appears to be delaminating on the top.

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

CO isn't extremely high suspect problem lies somewhere besides carb Some items to look at: internal engine wear and or misfire vacuum leak, remember they can leak under intake stuck EGR if equipped over advanced camshaft with too much overlap overheating

Qjet to Edelbrock 1400 vacuum line puzzle- I need help

For emissions diagnosis providing all the failure specs would help. Saying high HC there are degrees of high. As I posted in another thread high HC is generally anything other than fuel. If CO is low could be a lean condition. Normal CO would tilt toward other issues or a combination. Assume a...

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

Does California do under hood inspections? They did them here. Vehicles would fail for simple items like a missing air cleaner hot air tube. They would not even test the vehicle if anything was missing, altered or if they could prove it inoperable. 2WD FWD were dyno tested, 4x4's stationary.

    Mechanical temp gauge in head?

Had a mechanical temp gauge in the left head on a 350 SB. Ran around 20 degrees hotter than the thermostat approx 220 with a 195 stat. Just used 220 as the baseline normal temp.

    Truck pulls to the right.

Get a cheap heat gun they are about $20. Make a few harder stops. Jump out and check rotor or drum temps. Whatever is cooler than the rest is the problem corner. Does sound more brake related but also be aware loose steering/suspension parts can create a pull very similar to uneven brake...

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

A non-functional EGR would likely fail on NOx. Stuck open [even slightly] would increase HC substantially. EGR provides inert gas to intake charge to cool the combustion process. The way to look at emissions is this, CO is unburned fuel, HC is partially burnt fuel, NOx is produced by excessive...

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

Back when we checked emissions this state published a little pocket book with all the OEM required devices by brand, model, year, engine and GVW. California should have something similar available. Wish I would have saved it.

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

Assume is has a relatively stock cam? High HC is anything other than excess fuel. Could be over advanced timing to a weak EGR spring, ignition misfire, lean, ect. Vehicle does need to be warm however HC that high should be fixed. Engine is not happy.

help me find this ticking noise on my truck ( 1978 Chevy C10 305 )

Super easy to find exhaust leaks with one. Remove the steel part, just use the hose. Every time it puffs out makes a very obvious sound.

    1984 C30 Dually Brakes

Believe there is only .080 of material before minimum, really not that much. Get metal to metal, they are done. Agree there seems to be a lot of material but when cut too far there isn't enough mass to dissipate heat. Then there is that pesky liability.

    1984 C30 Dually Brakes

Front and rear wheels are interchangeable, drop center. Bearings on both ends need to be centered under wheels. Depth of the rotor makes up the difference between a normal wheel and a drop center style. Nearly no parts are interchangeable between 2 brake sizes depending on GVW. I have never seen...
