    Thanks Andy, I was concerned about the 115 ft.lbs. on the axle flange bolts. Good thing I've never broken a bolt from over torquing lol!! I'm so freakin' AR I even got out my Dremel with a wire wheel to clean both sides of the flange mounting surfaces. God I love my truck. :cool:

    Thanks for the input guys, I've got the bearings installed, drums rebuilt with new hardware, ready to rock and roll. Once again a 1988 Chevy R30 1 ton dually crew cab with 10.5 dif. Yes, I've searched the technical archives but must have missed it: I'm going absolutely nucking futs though...

    Well noted guys and thanks! NO GREASE. The exact same lube I just replaced in the dif will be used on the bearings with a quick dunk. It's usually NEVER ever a good idea to mix different kinds of lubricants - and I know better than that. WTF was I thinking? (Slamming open palm repeatedly on...

    Awesome, that's what I thought and appreciate the reply. I think I'll shmear a little on the inside and outside like you recommended. Now all I gotta' do is "man up" to heft those brake drums back on without tearing the new seals lol! (I think I'm gonna' use a jack....)

    Charlie: I have the EXACT same issue on my 87 R30, air blowing through the vents at all times and increases with speed. All controls are off. While the other posters have been helpful did you ever find the exact source of the problem? Thanks!

    That makes a lot of sense. I installed an aftermarket cd player a loooong time ago and most likely used a hot wire directly to that. That would explain the extra lead - and it's hot with the key off - so I think we have a winner! Ding Ding. :gr_grin: Now on to the cruise control.:uhoh2:
