Greg The parts manuals are an invaluable source for info on these trucks. I have the factory service manuals for 86 and 87 if you have need of info that they may have. They helped me putting a locker in my 86 Dana 70HD in the 90's. Back then we didn't have the internet resources available now...- ButchM

Engine oil capacity
Bart Some history from someone who remembers many of these changes: -Oil pans up to 73 had a thin seal between the timing chain cover and oil pan. 1987 V3500 Engine update
Jeff The LT9 350 and 454W were carbureted thru at least 1988. What all they were available in is debatable. If you have the SPID label showing an LT9 it was carb'd in 87. Greg Sounds like you may have it figured out. Below are some pages from a parts manual that show it as either a sensor if it has gauges or a switch for the cooling fan if no gauges. These may be of help in the future.- ButchM

Rochester Quadrajet issue
Dan Set curb idle with engine fully warmed up, it should not need adjusted after that, leave it alone. The fast idle settings are for a cold engine when the choke is in operation. If they are amiss the problem is likely in the choke linkage of choke pull-off.- ButchM

Quadrajet Secondary issue?
Tyler By your description, and assuming that when you said "until I floor it to kick it down a gear" it accelerates normal/good, tells me the secondaries are not the problem.
