    Towing with an old truck

I used my 78 as a semi daily driver and as my only truck for a while. Then it got totaled. Anyway, I used it to haul anything that would fit on my 6x12 trailer, but I’d say I never hauled more than 1500 pounds. It handled it well, but if I was going to pull 3,500 pounds I would want trailer...

What new tools have you got lately?

Just got home from Lowe’s. I decided to treat myself a little from some overtime I’ve worked. $180 later I came home with these, a set of folding saw horses, a set of Klein metric ratchet wrenches, and a screwdriver/socket set. I’ll admit that I’ve become a bit of a Klein fanboy lately, I know...

Is the polished/chrome tailgate cap stock, on my 87.

just some advice, the metal bed rail caps will eat into the paint. I had a 2006 Silverado that I used the diamond plate caps on, and they rubbed through the paint. If you use some, I’d go for the plastic tape on type.

    Which dually - 8.1 vs pre-DEF 6.6?

I’m just drawing on my own experience, growing up around diesel tractors on a farm. I also made the mistake of buying a 2005 f250 with the 6.0 power stroke. That was a terrible decision that I have yet to live down. For me and my experience, a gas engine in a pickup makes more sense. Diesel for...

    Which dually - 8.1 vs pre-DEF 6.6?

Gas gas gas. All day long. Easier, cheaper maintenance. Cheaper oil changes. Cheaper repairs. No anti gel additives in cold weather, no fuel filters, water separators, no glow plugs. And if you end up running out of gas, you just put more in and go. No bleeding lines, just gas and go. And...

Towing a diesel 2500 Burb on a 17’ flatbed trailer

I saw that @bucket mentioned it, but you could load the burb backwards. It would put the longer overhang over the tounge, the narrower axle between the fenders, and the heavy engine bay a little closer to the trailer axles. I know you stated that you already had a rented trailer lined up, but...

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Yes, the rear quarter panel by the tail light would be the best location to put the ball mount. Like you said, it’s not ideal, but it’s the best location for that type of mount. And the 102” whip is the best antenna out there for cb, since that’s actually the ideal size for the wavelength that...

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

Lucky lol. I think I told you about mine, saw some before and after pictures on a random facebook page. He had lifted his truck and put aftermarket wheels on. I messaged him and he said he would sell them, that he had tried to scrap them but the place wouldn’t take them with tires on them. So...

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

Thank you. Took me a 6 month search and a 7 hour round trip to get them lol.

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

I don’t have any idea of the stock dimension. I did do the same thing you’re doing. My dad bought my truck new, and he added 36” tires through the years. As I was working on it and driving it more, I put 33” mud terrains on, then eventually returned to stock springs, 31” all season tires on 8”...

Period correct wheels for 86 K10 Stepside?

This. They’re not super knowledgeable if they can’t tell it has a lift. And, I believe the 4x4 rally wheels would be 15x8.

    Exhaust Question

I have true duals in my 78, and have had duals in a couple other trucks. At this stage in life, I would just replace the muffler and be done. I’ve primarily had flowmasters, but I would look at thrush, and magnaflow as well.

    Looking At A 2005 Z71 4x4

I had an 04 briefly that gave me ac troubles. I eventually did what you did, cut the belt and move on. But I only had that truck for about 6 months. The 01 we have, and my 06 never gave any ac troubles. I only had my 02 for about 6 weeks before it was totaled, so I don’t count it.

    Plastic thread repair

Well, I stopped by the hardware store today and they didn’t have anything that would work. The closest thing I could find is a threaded pipe nipple. But, this specific piece is not a standard plumbing size, it’s something proprietary that falls in between standard sizes. Back to the drawing...

    Looking At A 2005 Z71 4x4

everyone has pretty much covered everything, but I’ll add my 2 cents. We have a farm truck, 2001 Silverado bought new. 315,000 miles and it just blew a head gasket, otherwise everything is all original. Even the transmission. Slightly older truck, but the same generation. I personally bought a...
