Can anyone tell me what this is??

Brake System Design and Proportioning Valve Behavior: The proportioning valve’s role in dual master cylinder systems (introduced in the U.S. around 1967 for safety, per federal regulations like FMVSS 105 <NOTE: FEDERAL here>) was to ensure balanced braking and detect hydraulic failures. When a...

Can anyone tell me what this is??

C'mon, Butch --- you didn't say that did you? --- because it's not the same system. Surge brakes are self-contained ON the trailer tongue. Hydraulic-over-Electric controllers are inside the cab so the driver can manually apply the trailer brakes. Pay attention --- it helps a lot.

Can anyone tell me what this is??

It was not uncommon to have that hydraulic-over-electrical controller, drip on your leg or shoes; they were however, the only thing going for lighter vehicles, although surge brakes - which are NOT integrated into the vehicle's hydraulic brakes, were used occasionally. Tapping into a...

rear tailgate power window motor Blazer/suburban

Not just a few times I considered going the other way - electric to manual. One thing I do is use some long-set epoxy to lock the drive ends into the motor and the drive unit ... just don't get any INSIDE the drive! It seems this is where the basic failure is --- if it pops out, that blue...

You can buy them bigger and sand/file them smaller - wear gloves and wear a dust mask!

Can anyone tell me what this is??

Hmmmmm .... a label I would wear proudly. Rules are good --- that way you know where you stand and how that vehicle coming at you at 60 MPH would hit you at a combined speed of 120MPH if you are driving at the same speed, but something failed or fell off - whatever! Knowing that they are...

Can anyone tell me what this is??

Tell me how this is even taught in "Hydraulics 1A" and let me know if YOU know how it works ... OK? It uses brake fluid in a dead-end circuit to activate a plunger that moves a multi-fingered resistor to activate the trailer brakes. IT USES FLUID VOLUME --- it is illegal on any vehicle...

    Rear Brakes Locking Up

I know I inspected a bunch of them and to tell you the truth --- I do not remember seeing cross-fed brakes on any domestic vehicle. Some Euroboxes did it --- Citroens, Vauxhauls, Opels, a few Fiats and maybe the Gordinis --- but I do not remember any domestic cars doing that. If I'm wrong...

    Steering does not self center.

"In the air" and "on the ground" resistance from the ball joints is a bad call - there are dynamics involved --- eg, the vehicle weight alone is the biggest dynamic to consider. Let an alignment shop handle the high-center setting in the steering box - it should be part of a good alignment...

    Rear Brakes Locking Up

Never push a brake pedal to the floor. If the master is contaminated - it can pack crap in the forward piston seal and ruin it. Always assume the master is contaminated and put a 2x4 or 4x4 under the pedal to keep your "helper" from jamming it all the way down. Good help is hard to find...

Can anyone tell me what this is??

You're 100% wrong. The small cylinder-piston in the controller takes fluid to make it travel. This is not the same as brake wear --- it's totally out of that realm --- totally. If it takes fluid, it decreases the ultimate volume sent to whatever side of the brakes in which you've installed...

    Drip Rail Sealant

I have used windshield polyurethane glue on mine. Do NOT get it on any part of your (human) body. I know of what I speak here.

    Waen 2990 manual lockong hubs

Bearing grease in the Warn hubs is never a good idea; they like a less viscous lubricant so they can move freely --- and they don't "move" once they are in position anyway --- so grease isn't even needed, although something to keep them rust-free would be nice. I have seen everything from...

Can anyone tell me what this is??

The problem with the hydraulic brake controllers is that they "stole" some fluid from the discharge of the master cylinder, and whatever position they were installed in (front or rear) suffered a bit for pressure and application volume. Initially, they were designed for the old single-system...
