Thanks for replying...I've read about the conversion kit...correct me if I'm wrong...but I understand originally the NP203 to be full time 4WD and the conversion kit makes it a 2WD and the way to determine that is with the hubs free and the shift in 2H the front drive shaft should spin...mine...
84 GMC...not sure if its original T Case or not...but I'm pretty sure from pictures I've seen...I have a NP203 T Case...manual locking hubs. I have no clue what the shift pattern is. From what I've read ...the shift pattern is as follows and could someone confirm...

This engine although not new...we put in just recently...engine was powerwashed and painted before we put in so any oil leak should be noticeable...I've checked all over the engine...no oil pan gasket leak before and new one was put in after main seal replacement, oil sending sensor should be up...
I just replaced my rear main...84 305, after replacing...started engine...noticed oil coming from flex plate cover right in front of oil filter and on the other side of top corner right beside starter.
Any clues? Still main seal...if so...what could be causing it to bypass seals?
Thanks so much...excellent details...think I'll try it...yes it is a 4WD and the dipstick is on the passenger side. The block number indicates if I remember correctly it being like an 84 engine...so with the year and the stick being on the passenger side...that should indicate it being a two...
84 High Sierra 305 rear main seal
To replace rear main seal...I understand I should have two piece...it's an 84..so I can drop oil pan, remove oil pump and take off main cap.
Forgive me...I'm not a mechanic...i usually have help when I do these kinds of things...is this something I can do...
Thanks to all who replied...I did the TDC...and I was a tooth off on distributor...so it was to far advanced...once I got that straight...I then tweaked cap until I got it where I thougth it should be...and I also adjusted the curb idle on my Holley carburator...after those settings...idle was...
Anybody know how to engage 4 wheel drive...I have a 84 GMC Sierra.
Lock hubs...
2wd drive to 4hi...I can transfer in Drive while shifting up once ?
4hi to 4lo ...I have to put in Nuetral and shift up one more time?
4lo to 4hi ...back in Nuetral...shift down once.
4hi to 2wd...in...
So nutshell...forget about light timing...just move distrib clockwise until I get easy starts when hot and then counter clock wise a tad to advance it as far as I can? So I get engine warm..then tweak distributor and try starting while hot...if it drags...then I tweak it clockwise a tad...then...
Well I just bought the truck a couple months ago...the electric distributor that is in there is the one from the 350. So any clues as to how I should set the timing? If 6 degrees is the recommended setting for vaccum advanced...anybody know what I should set it to with the electric...
1984 GMC High Sierra...had 350 engine and head gasket blew. Buddy gave me a 80-84 305 engine...so I put that in.
I'm trying to figure out what I should set timing to for this engine...I find that it would be 6 degrees, but that setting is for a vaccum advanced distributor. The distributor I...
Well it turned out being bad bearing...I'm still fighting on how to get it out...it's seized up...long story short...I've got some options...but my main thing is...I totally screwed up I think.
Long story short...cold weather hit...I only had half my truck in garage cause I didn't think I'd...
Yes...it's a C clip diff...and you answered my main question...I really wanted to know if I had to replace the inner bearing or not...thanks dude...appreciate the help and the video links.
Good point bout the tire "play" I'll check that out...and yeah...oil did get on brakes...I cleaned them best I could...guess my biggest question is...if I've already replaced the seal...as far as replacing the bearing...if I get the tool you mentioned...is the bearing right there...
