My hot rod friends say I've got to damn many gauges now, why would I need more? Well, if something goes wrong wouldn't you want to know instead of guessing what's the deal? If your trans. was acting up and you looked over at the trans. temp. gauge and it was at 300 degrees, that might tell you something bad was happening to your trans. and you'd better pull over and shut the engine off and let it cool. But if you had no way of knowing what the trans. temp. was, how would you know it was over heating? I guess if you heard crackling or a sizzling sound coming from the trans. that might be a giveaway.

Also, it is important to know what the oil temperature is since it's the factor of whether or not you have an engine left in a few moments, and it's about to seize up!

Here's some ventage gauges I have.

This is an old amp gauge. I don't remember where I got it. The photo got out of order. Now it's the last one.

And I had this tach in my '69 Mustang I bought after I got out of the Army a million years ago.

That tach is awesome and probably worth some money. I’m a big believer of gauges. I have my own big rig and it’s dash looks like an airplane. I know the temp and pressure of every liquid in that truck plus exhaust temp, intake restriction and boost pressure. I can tell you that on a cool 40-50 degree day it’ll push 30lbs of boost but a hot 70+ day I’ll only get 27psi with the same inlet restriction. That’s how much I use my gauges and tube by them also.

That tach reminds me of a Mario Andretti tach I picked up a while ago. Pretty cool.

AuroraGirl,

I have seen rock crawlers with power steering will have temp. gauges and pressure gauges because the power steering takes a beating going so slow and with lots of horse power it can heat the power steering fluid to almost boiling temp. That would be good to know if your power steering fluid is safe.
